Plugs in an 03 GT

I am contemplating the change in the 2001 Gt motor I have in my 81 notch. I don't have it running yet, but I worry about blow out. There is no mention in this thread. Other threads you read nothing but blow outs. Even my tuner said of the 1000's of Mustangs they have changed plugs on because of tune ups and changing because they are going steps colder because of NOS or forced induction, he has never had one blow out!!!

72,000 miles on mine...what should I do? I don't know if they have ever been done before either!

Change em man, I did 3 plug changes on my 99 before I ever heard about the
blowout issue. Just be careful to tq them down right. I tried motorcraft
autolite, and Boush dual platnium, I know some of you dont like Boush but
they were my favorite out of the 3.

I have done everything else. Fuel filter, motor mounts, timing gasket, valve cover gaskets, exhaust manifold gaskets, T-stat, new FORD Harmonic Balancer, FORD tensioner, FORD oil pan, and gasket, belt, rad, cond, fan, hoses, fluids. It is READY!!! hehe......I just haven't done the plugs yet. I have done them on every other Mustang even my 95 with aluminum GT40's. I didn't have a problem, I just snugged them up after finger tight...no torque wrench. I better give it a shot, because this car had all the bolt ons and bald tires. I put it all back to stock, so I want to to run perfect.

Thats a little harsh man..:notnice:

Anyways... you dont have to have the fuel rails removed... the only thing you need is a 10" extention and a deep socket...remove them easy enough.. you can always get to them just dont give up =P there is always a straight shot.. just fyi...

When putting them back in.. hand tighten... if any resistance.. turn counter clockwise till you hear it skip on the tip of the thread and try again... when you get it hand tightened, another 1/8th of a turn with the ratchet secures them without sceasing. Put the coil back over the plug.. you will NOT hear the old CLICK that you use to get with wires... when you have it on HAND TIGHTeN the coil on plug (CoP), then just like the plug, another 1/8th of a turn. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN!!!! You tighten over 20lb of preasure.. you break the seat on the Intake Manifold.. its not fun replacing one so DONT DO IT PLEASE! Other than that your Done, Resecure the molex connector on your CoP and that cylender is done.

The passenger side of the engine is the hardest part... Air intake must be removed... and the last two you kind of have to fight the heater core return lines... Dont give up though.. break the plug loose and hand loosen..

One more thing.... Plugs arnt pregapped... I dont give a damn who tells you otherwise.. factory "oem" is .040-.042 Your GT requires .052 Please remember to do that.. it does wonders =P Good luck:nice:

It may be a little harsh, but I hear about too many ruined heads on this board. People are blowing spark plugs left and right because they don't know how to properly install spark plugs in there stang. That being said, just use a LITTLE anti seize on the threads, tighten each plug by HAND first, and then torque each plug to 13lbs. Also make sure the engine is STONE COLD.

Sorry if I sounded like a dick earlier.....
