Hood clearance issues

I have a 92 coupe that I have been putting together, and I would like to keep my freshly painted stock hood. I have tall valve covers, so I am using a 1/2" spacer on my GT40 intake. I got everything together and went to put the hood on and it doesn't go. I've done a search and can't tell if this is normal or not. Well, in conclusion I don't think it is abnormal. I have brand new motor mounts. I don't know if they are vert or not+some say that they don't really even lower the motor. I just went to O'reily and got 92 mustang motor mounts--according to some: they are all the same after 1990 anyway?
If I don't already have vert mounts and I get some what difference can I expect? And are there any other options that I should know about?
What should I do?
Thanks

the only thing you can do, is either buy a cowl hood, OR, you will have to just remove the tall valve covers. regular height covers will work fine with almost any rockers if you remove the oil baffles in them. Then just take ur 1/2" spacer out and it should close fine

Well, I am kind of set on the valve covers for a couple of different reasons. So, I may end up with a cowl. I have kind of regreted not getting one before I painted it anyway. Maybe I will just put the stock valve covers on there for now. But, is that a no to the convertible mounts? That wouldn't possibly help?

yea i have never heard of vert mounts being lower but u could look into it and see if there possibly are any aftermarket ones, thing is, if u lower the engine anymore than it already is, the oil pan will most likely touch the K member.

BOTH vert mounts and ENERGY SUSPENSION mounts, will lower your motor about .5". iirc, prothane mounts won't though.

here's a normal mustang V8 mounts:

these are what convertible mounts look like:

these are what the Energy Suspension mounts look like (tranny mount on bottom):

energy suspension and prothane mounts are the same design as vert mounts, but iirc, the prothane mounts are a little thicker and won't lower your motor. there was a big thread about this some months back and somebody actually took side by side pics and did comparisons. i had vert mounts in my old coupe and i remember it did lower the engine in reference to the MAP sensor.

hope this helps, good luck

Yeah, that helps. But I am still a little confused, because I don't see how the second picture could possibly be shorter than the first picture. The mounts that are on the car look like the second picture. So if I have already lowered the motor .5", then should it be hitting the hood with my combo of just a gt40 and .5" spacer. It just doesn't seem right to me-I don't know. I ordered both sets at O'reily so that I can compare them in hand.
