'98 cobra or '00 GT

Hey guys, sorta new to the forum, been lurking in the background for awhile, and well my birthday's coming up soon (turning 16) and for my b-day present i think I'm going to buy another stang for a DD cuz the '65 is a father son project that'll be a weekend kinda car. Now he's where I'm torn and could use some of your guys' expertise. I've been looking, and a 1998 cobra is roughly the same price of a 2000 GT. My price rage is anywhere from $5000- $11,000 :canada: being my very max. Now if you guys were in my shoes, and knowing what you guys know, what would you guys do? Your help and opinions are greatly appreciated :nice:

Thats a tough one...so wait you are gonna be turning 16? Insurance on either is gonna be sky high.

How many miles on the two cars?

The Cobra would be nice but thats a lot of power for someone turning 16.

+1 on the power of the cobra, those cars are no joke. I do approve of you getting a cobra, only if you promise to be a responsible teenager.

oh yeah, and insurence.....you better get some Lube. cause your gonna get shafted.

Even if he gets the GT he should get some lube too because I have a feeling for a 16 year old the insurance is not gonna be much less!

either one you need to be careful. I have always been fairly responsible with my cars but even I have had fun and done some things I shouldnt have.

GT or Cobra it is still gonna be a lot of power. I'm definitely not saying don't get one because I got my 02 GT when I was 17. But Just be careful. I have seen my idiot friends get ahold of a GT and beat the living hell out of them. I have seen a few totalled too because of this. Some were an accident, but still. You need to be really responsible.

thanx for the quick replys
yeah, i was leanin more toward the cobra aswell due to the isurance is about the same. Don't worry, i know a couple ppl who have mustangs and they beat on them with no end and i am definatly not going to do that. when i get one, its going to be my pride and joy. thnx for the input, i'll just have to see whats going to turn up in the next month or so

im from vancouver BC and ill definatly keep you guys posted. how reliable are the cobra's compared to the GT's?

IMO reliability is directly related to how well the car is taken care of. Almost 112k on my 2000 GT and it runs great. I love my car and take good care of it. Treat it well and you should be good. Trick is to find something that has been cared for BEFORE you buy it. Low miles are a plus.

98 cobra HANDS DOWN!!!! the 2000 GT is a SLIGHTLY newer car & all, & its a newer bodystyle, but theres not many late model stangs sexier than a clean 96-98 Cobra....(except for 03-04 Machs & Cobra's:D )...

+ u dont see 98 Cobra's very often, but 99-04 GT's are everywhere.....& 32V is always gonna be a better platform IMO....
