seen this happen so many times now, its unbelieveable. Most of the time the winshield breaks, he got lucky, but he is till fubard, i heard thats a minimum of about a 1000 dollars to fix. From what i was told, that cowl area is spot welded in with like a thousand spot welds. lol making it very time consuming and expensive to fix. sucks for him

But you forgot to mention one thing;...... he said specifically that he just eased the hood down and never check to see if it was closed.

So isn't that like having hood pins on you hood and thinking that your hood won't fly up.... but then you didn't put the pins in, or am I missing something here?

It's operator error and nothing more!

I can't believe that's all it done, my hood flew up at 35 maybe 40 tops and dented my roof broke my window and cracked the hood, that was on a 95 though, but it still did a lot more damage than he got.

that happened with my old 94 cobra, it knocked my fenders outta alignment too though. i was still using a stock style latch too. luckily i was only goin about 45 when it happened, i had just gotten off the interstate where i was doin about 75-80

Even with the factory latch, I think the fiberglass hoods can 'flex' enough to let the latch slip out.

Yeah that seems to be the problem, has anyone seen another way to latch them other than using pins? They look ok on some cars but I dont think I would ever want to put hood pins on my car.

Maybe a short cable under the hood you could remove by hand once the hood is popped a few inches?
