I got a 92 lx 5.0 convertible a few weeks ago. One door handle was on its way out and the other is already broke. I ordered new door handles from 50resto.com but when my buddy went to move the car into the polebarn the door handle broke completely. With both doors closed and windows up is the best way to get into the car now by cutting the white top off? :-(

Any suggestions appreciated...

Power locks? my 89 coupe had em. Anyways i locked my keys in my 94 conv and i just took a wedge and put it in the back side of the driver side window, and took a small rod and hit the unlock button.

I'd get a locksmith first or try to stick a rod in to the power lock button. No power locks, try to slim jim it. Better than a new top or window.

I had my stang for four years and I never had the breaking door handle problem. Are you guys pulling on them real hard, I pull the handle till the door pops out at me then open it by the door frame.

my handles totally off my car, i stick my finger through the hole and push up on the bar..

They go because there made of cheap plastic, and where the handle sits on the shaft on the bracket, the spring usually is the first thing to go.. causeing a push and pull method to be used. but the wrong push and pull can end bad

bottom line, use some pinky power

i've installed 3 door handles on mine so far. should be good now cuz i found metal ones. but the plastic ones are crap. and everyone has always had a hard time opening my doors. i think it's a poorly designed system.

Even perfectly good metal door handles break, unfortunately. Frankenstang's dad managed to destroy a perfectly good metal handle on the driver's side of her notch - the door was locked and for some reason he thought it was just stuck, so he lifted up on it with BOTH hands. :nonono:

The metal handle on my '86 isn't doing so well, either. Gonna probably replace it soon, too, as it's kinda floppy because the bushing of the handle's hinge towards the rear is kinda wallowed out.

I've re-read this like 5 times, and I'm still wondering ... how does this help a dude whose door HANDLES are broken on both sides? He's not locked out of the car, he just can't open the doors because there's nothing to open the doors WITH! (ACK! I just ended a sentence with a preposition! Bad, bad Grammar Nazi... :nono: )

bend up a metal rod, wedge the window, and open using the interior handle.
This happend to my buddies hatch, with the keys in the car, in front of my house.
If the keys weren't in the car we would of went through the hatch.
If you can find the right rod with good rigidity, you can reach across and open the p side door from the drivers side too.

I'd rather break pot metal handles than have the paint come off the metal ones.
