Well, here goes ... I have started the ball rolling for converting my 410 to be carburated.
You guys will probably shake your heads and tell me that I am making a mistake, but I have my reasons .. the main one being that I will be completely free to decide down the road to pull my engine and transmission and put them into the Fairlane if I decide to sell the Stang and want to keep the motor.
Selling my EFI stuff should be very easy ... I started a thread on Corral a couple of days ago and my inbox was full in a day. It should also pay for all the parts and labor, because all together, the EFI stuff will probably sell for $1500 or so, and the carburated stuff is looking like it will cost a good bit less than that.
So here is where I am ...
I found a guy on Corral who has a 351W RPM Air Gap dual plane intake, Holley Blue pump with regulator, and MSD-8584 distributor for sale for $450 shipped. He also has a Holley carburator, but it does not have the Ford AOD kickdown on it, so even if I could get a conversion thing for it, I don't want it.
Then I asked around about the fuel pump situation and found out that Cartech makes pickups for $100. So I can pull the Walbro out and put this in, and then use an external pump.
The carburator I will use is a Holley 0-80770, 770 CFM. It is the best carb I can find that comes stock with the Ford AOD kickdown. I have a call into Holley to verify that is the right carb for my situation.
So here are the big parts I am going with, as one would find them on Summit:
EDL-7581 - RPM Air Gap intake
Holley 0-80770 - 770CFM Carburator, vacuum secondary, electric choke
HLY-12-802-1 - 110 GPH Fuel pump and regulator
MSD-8584 - Pro-Billet Distributor
CAR-21005 - Cartech fuel tank pickup (not on Summit)
The Cartech guy said the pickup threaded for NPT fittings. The feed side is 3/8" and you use a -8 AN plug style (short threads and an o-ring) fitting. The return line is 1/4". Since this is a returnless system, I will use a 1/4" NPT plug for that. For a return style system, you would use a -6 AN.
