My starter is making a grinding noise when I attempt to start car. (will not start anymore)

About a month ago I had a lot of work done including long-tube headers. I have heard that long-tubes will "burn out" a starter.

So my question is...

1. Has anyone had a similar problem, and how was it fixed?

2. If the starter needs to be replaced, should I go with a "mini" starter? And what kind?

Thanks.

on a race car we built we had this happen...we replaced it with a stock starter but this time wrapped the starter in heat wrap and havent had a probelm with it since.

alright thanks, I figured it wasn't a coincidence that the starter went out right after putting those long tubes on. Hopefully the heat wrap works, because some of those mini starters get a little pricey compared to a stock replacement.
