need help wiring a true push button start (no key)

Im in the process of wiring my car for a push button ignition and need a little help/advice. The goal is to have switches to turn the car on, and a push button to start the car. No ignition switch or key slot at all. I've been looking over the diagram below and trying to figure out the best way to tackle this. Heres my idea so far:

Get a 3 position toggle switch (on-off-on), find the wires that make contact the when key is in the ON position and connect them to one of the "on" sides to the switch, then do the same for the ACC key position using the other "on" side of the switch. Then find the wires that make connection when the key is in the crank position and wire them to a push button. Would that work or is it not that easy?

Is your car carb or EFI?
There is an extra wire in the EFI circuit that tells the TFI that the car is cranking and to increase the dwell for more low speed spark. Once the engine starts and you release the key, the start signal goes away and the TFI goes back to normal operation.

This changes the way you wire the push button or switch unless you make all of the cuts and splices right at the ignition switch.

Properly wired carb cars do not use a TFI module, so this extra wire is not used.

Sorry for not specifying, the car is a 89 GT (EFI).

I was planning on just making my cuts/splicies at the ignition switch to make things easier. Any reason why I shouldnt do it that way? Will my idea to hook the wires up to a toggle switch to simulate the key positions work?

I have many hours logged on the veryuseful site, great info there.

It should work if you use the white/pink wire for the starter feed. Cut or disconnect it from the ignition switch connector. Connect 12 volts on one side of the switch and wire the white/pink wire to it. Be sure to put a 5 amp fuse in the power feed to your switch or push button.
