So my front brakes rattle like crazy and I figure its cause they dont have the anti-rattle clips on them. Not sure as I have not pulled them apart but seems logical. Are they part of the pads and I gotta do new pads or can they be purchased seperatly. BTW this is for my 96 Cobra.

I beleive the clips are part of the pads. If you order aftermarket pads, a lot of them don't come with the clips so you have to re-use the old ones. Sometimes people mistakenly throw the old clips out with the old pads. This is what must have happened with the previous owner of my stang. I was doing some work under the car and while inspecting I found my calipers had a bit of play and would clunk when moved. I had been searching for the cause of this horrible noise for quite some time. After a bit of research I found I was missing the anti-rattle clips that hold them in place.

After a bit of searching I found a cobra brake hardware kit at O'Reilly Auto Parts that included the pins, e-clips, and anti-rattle clips for both front sides for about $6. The install was a cinch and cured the problem!:nice:

Just called O'Reillys and they will have them in tomm. and they were $10 for the whole kit like you got. Guess there was inflation

Im hoping you just solved my problem too.

By brakes rattling, do you mean in reverse?

My brakes make a horrible rattling noise, but only when I am backing up. The last owner replaced the pads before I bought it so maybe this is the issue for me too.

What does the anti-rattle clip look like and where would I find it at on the car?

Where the hell is Converse? IDK what they look like since mine are gone and you will find it on the brakes im guessing  Go to OReilys and ask to see the hardware kit for the fron brakes and that will let ya see them and if you dont need them you could always return the parts. I searched for ya and could not locate a picture, sorry :(

I hear mine when going over even bumps on the road. If I gently apply the brakes it goes away. It sounds like two metal surfaces rattling against each other

The person that I bought my car from did a Cobra brake upgrade on the car and changed the pads to Autozones more expensive "performance" pad. He said thats when he noticed the noise start so maybe the pads he put in didnt come with them either.

The Cobra brakes don't have anti-rattle clips... if you are talking about the front ones anyways. That metal piece on the left is a your pads are worn out noise making device. When your pads wear down enough it starts to scrape on the rotor and makes an abnormal (annoying as hell) sound when braking. I'm surprized how many people DON'T notice the difference and just run their stuff into the ground.

The rears have these metal clips that go on the top and bottem of the pads and keep them nice and snug (top to bottem) in the caliper bracket. I would guess thats what you mean by anti-rattle clips ?

Otherwise I would think you guys are talking about the shims which go on the back of the pads. I usually buy Centric Parts brand pads which comes with shims already on the pads.
