Okay, I was removing my shift boot on my '01 Bullitt to see if I was on the stock shifter or not, seeing as I bought the car used, and didn't know if the previous owner replaced it or not. Anyway, when I replaced the boot, all 4 compression clips clicked, but the boot is now loose at the very bottom, where the guy is holding his hand in the following picture:
I'm not sure, but I think I broke the piece on the boot itself that connects to the following clip which is highlighted in red:
That piece is still there, but the one on the boot itself I believe is broken. It's not noticeable that it's broken until you grab it, and then it only moves a little more than before it broke, but is there any way to fix it? Can I just purchase a new one from Ford? Maybe a DIY fix? Thanks!
