gt take off brakes

has anyone gotten these? i got a set with calipers, pads and rotors. just wonder if they bolt right up. i remember some one saying the gt caliper has some sort of bracket to make it fit the bigger rotors. the caliper looks exactly the same tho it doesnt have any extra bracket. i just want to know before i bring them to get put on. i dont want to bring and pay for them not to be able to put them on you know.

i tried putting them on myself, but the caliper bolts are torqued down so tight they wouldnt budge. i used my leg and it wouldnt come off. damn ford production line. its also to tight in there to get my breaker bar in.

The bracket is actually part of the caliper. It's where the two bolts that secure it to the spindle go.


I've found the best way to break loose bolts is to put the closed end of the wrench on it and then hit the other end with another wrench (or hammer) of decent weight. Short quick blows usually works well. It's the same theory of how an impact wrench works.

That usually works much better than using sheer muscle

Leverage works well too, but in tight spacers, the first method has worked well for me.

thanks for the tip. yeah after looking at the caliper the part where the bolts go seems to be bigger.

maybe tomorrow since i have an a arm brace to put on anyway. i'll give it a try breaking the bolts loose one more time. if it works i save 85 bucks.

Did you get your takeoffs from Diversified Industries? I presume you didn't have the same unpleasant experience I had: still haven't got thr GT rotors they owe me.

Those rotors don't look bad. It's just very minor surface rust. Honestly I don't think you are going to get a perfect set unless you live in a VERY dry environment. When you take a rotor off a car it reacts very quickly to any humidity in the air and will rust over like that in a vew days.

That gray area you pointed out in one pic is no a derusting agent, but Factory ford paint on the rotor hats that comes on all new rotors.

When i took my GT brakes off to put Cobra brakes, my rotors looked like that a couple days later. Was nothing i could do unless i sealed them off in a vacuum bag.

Honestly, some light sandpaper and a wire brush will clean them up and some light rust preventiative oil will keep them from rusting until you are ready to install. Just remember to use brake cleaner to take it off. Brand new rotors are usually coated to keep them from rusting. If they weren't they would also look like that shortly./

I don't think you'll ever get a set of "clean" rotors unless they send you brand new ones or you live in an arid climate.

i actually still havent done it. the bolts would not come off. so when i get my suspension put on. i am gonna ahve them do that too.

no i got them from takeoffs.com . i ordered a diff and gears from diversified a couple years ago. after them charging me then waiting over a month. i email them didnt get a answer. then when i threated legal action i got a response back saying its back ordered. why it didnt say that to begin with i dont know. so i had to wait a month for them to charge my card back.

i finally got all my suspension parts. so i brought the car in to get that done and the brakes while they had the wheels off. they gave me back the stock rotors and i have a second set of gt rotors so i took some pictures as requested. so here they are. they are only about a 1/2 inch bigger not sure exactly tho may be and inch.

i still have to do the panhard bar and rear sway bar. im waiting on rear end link for the sway bar. i havent had a chance to really test the suspension. i just got it done yesterday and its been raining since.

i think its a perfect drop not ridiculous, but almost all the wheel gap is gone.

I don't doubt you're correct about the "lighr rust" and the gray stuff. Subsequent experience with new GT rotors enlightened me about the factory paint.

The first rotors they sent might actually have cleaned up; the surface wasn't bad, but THEY WERE V6 ROTORS, not what they offered and what I paid for.

If they had sent GT rotors in that condition, I might have grumbled and cleaned them up and put them on the car. But THEY WERE V6 ROTORS.

The second set, if you'll notice, WERE SCORED AND GREASY, in addition to being rusty. Clearly not NEW TAKE-OFF FIVE-MILES-OLD rotors. Junkyard rotors is what they were and are. You wouldn't have put them on your car. Someone took them off a car because THEY WERE UN-USABLE. That's not "new take-off" by any stretch of the imagination.

You can tell the arrogance of those Diversified Industries/Newtakeoff/V6stuff scammers still rankles. I understand mistakes, but this smacks of deliberate cheating.
