99 spindles

ive been in the process of a 5 lug swap on my 88 for the past couple months now. looking up what parts will and will not work. anyways i was wondering if anyone had any idea if the spindles if that is even what they are called...the part that houses the hub would work from a 99 so that i could use the double piston calipers that were used in the 99 and later models in comparison to the single piston units on the earlier models. i have looked around a little and somewhat remember someone talking about it but could not locate the post again....so any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks brandon

The 96+ spindles work, but the problem is the tie rod ends are too short. So you need to center them, and still you won't have much left.

You end up screwing your outer tie rod ends out so far to meet the spindle, that you don't have much of the threaded part of the inner going through the outer. I used them, but I did it on an alignment rack, centered the tie rod ends so I had as much of the inners sticking through the outers as possible...and it honestly is still short. I believe replacing the inners would solve this problem...I will look into it tomorrow.

Not only are the tie rod lengths an issue, but bump steer will be too as well as that 8mm a side wider track (finder interferance). If you must use the 96+ spindles, then buy a proper bump steer kit which will give you the right length outer tie rod as well as the ability to adjust out some of the bump steer. If you have not bought the 96+ spindles, then go with the 94/95 spindles (curved steering knuckles - near stock track width), There may still be tie rod length issues but the bump steer will be a bunch easier to deal with. YOu can use the later calipers with the 94/95 spindles, but you will need to slightly mod them. Do a search as others have posted this mod.

I followed this link (that I found here on Stangnet...whomever posted this totally comprehensive guide, please note that I'm forever in your debt!!!). I too am just about finished with my 5-lug upgrade. I found all my parts on ebay. I used '96 spindles and had no issues however, I did need change my tie-rod ends as the ones that came on my Flaming River manual rack were too short. Anyway, good luck!
