Exactly as the title says...my transmisson is on it's way out and needs a rebuild or replaced before it leaves me stranded somewhere...I would rather not take the bell off so I decided to try and loosen the 4 tranny to bell bolts but they are astronomically tight. I've tried a breaker bar with a cheater pipe, an impact gun, and still no avail. They aren't seized up or anything just super super tight. I will heat them up if I HAVE to but I'd rather avoid that...using a torch where gas lines, oil, tranny fluid and everything else is just doesn't sound like the safest thing to do....I've done it many times before but that is my last resort. Any ideas?
Thanks.

They are really that tight? Do you have the car on a hoist or is it up on jackstands?

I'd pull the bellhousing off with the transmission attached before I took a torch anywhere near the transmission. It's a pain, but it isn't THAT bad.

Yes, I am turning them the right way...I consider myself pretty mechanically inclined, but I'm just looking for a quick alternative to get this done and over with. My truck, with 220k miles, is going to start needing some attention (spring time fix-up, since I ain't touched it all winter..lol) since the weather is warming up and I need to get my car done so I can park my truck for a while and work on it. The car is up on jackstands, btw.

You may also be able to use a breaker bar and use a jack to break them loose too. Use the car's weight to your advantage. Worked for me in the past in some tight places.
