hey im trying to replace my rear shocks on my 95 gt and i got the old one out but i had to pry it out with a crowbar. i cant fit the bottom part of the new shock into the bracket. how can i widen that bracket without breaking it?

any suggestions?

I had a similar issue last year. One was the right shock, the other too wide, I took it back and had them find me the right one.
If you want to save some change, come to Vineland next week and I will give you my one year old ones, standard Advance Auto version, going coil-overs.

How much wider is the new to the old?? You think you got the wrong one??
Theres a metal sleeve inside the shock... you could grind some if we're talking a small amt..

the difference is very slight. The other shock fits. its just that i think someone must have overtightened the bolt before and bent the bracket a little. that tube is stupid. why does it have to stick out on one side? just to piss me off. thats why.

If you had a torch you could heat her up and tweak it open some...short of that sounds like you need to find something like a stack of washers and then place your bar in there and give er some to open it???

Good luck..

Working on these cars is never easy, there is always SOMETHING that holds up a simple install. Just take your time, brainstorm ideas, and don't get pissed and jack it all up. I've been in your shoes many times and wanted to pour gas all over the car then light a match! It'll eventually work for you in a little time and more effort and you'll feel better about the job when your all buttoned up. Good luck bro.

ok i found a big screwdriver and bent the bracket open with it. i drove the car around and everything seems alright.

i still need an outer tie rod for the front so thatll be another project for next weekend.
