Ok so the story is this. Me and my boss both bought VERY similar 2002 Mustang GTs over the summer. We both bought them within like a week of one another. We didnt know about one another's cars because he was at another store in Connecticut training some new employees because we had opened a new store over there. When he came back to resume his job at our store he was amazed by my car and ever since has been like my best friend at my job. Like I always thought he didnt care for me too much and was always uptight about me getting my work done before closing but when he found out the mineral gray GT in the parking lot was mine all he does now is when hes walking around supervising is come up to me and talk cars. Which is fine by me because Id rather talk cars for my shift when hes on than do my work lol.

So heres the problem recently he told me that he read that the 2002 Mustang GT puts down 240 hp at the crank and something like 220 at the wheels. While the Bullitt puts down like 270 hp at the wheels and some rediculous number at the crank. EVERY article I read about the GT even the one from Ford says a standard trim GT from 2002 puts down 260 hp at the crank while the Bullitt puts down 265 hp with its upgrades. Now the Bullitt I can understand there being some controversy over since it DOES have a better exhaust and an intake and we are supposed to believe that its only a 5 hp gain? But I do know it isnt much than a regular GT. So can anyone tell me what a stock 99-04 GT puts down hp wise? I mean I am 99% sure that it is 260 hp and I wanted to call my boss retarded but that prolly wouldnt have gone over well. Could someone also tell me what the numbers on the Bullitt are? Possibly anyone who owns one of these cars and had them dynoed while still stock. I mean my boss claims to have an article by car and driver or some **** but he has yet to present it to me. He is supposed to bring in a copy for me tomorrow night and I would like to totally pwn him. I mean COME ON 220 hp at the wheels?! I dont care if Im wrong but Id like to know for sure. Thanks guys.

From what i've gathered, the stock GTs are 260 while the Bullitts are rated slightly better at 265... The upgrades werent much more past the slightly less restrictive exhaust and the intake... just made for a better breathing car hence the 5 hp..

GT is 260 for all years- 225-240ish is normal at the wheels, stock. Over the years, Ive noticed that the 01-04 cars are a tad bit stronger, but a very small difference.

bullitt got pullies and an intake. Ive seen a bone stock bullitt(on nitto 275/40's) go 13.33(aka. JBVOBRA). Dyno, not much different, maybe 5-10hp over a GT.

99-04 GTs rated at 260 crank. 260 -15% drivetrain lose is 221 at the tires. 01 Bullitts rated at 265 crank, but some stock dynos proved it to be closer to 270-275. Bullitts have much broader torque curve over GT. The 01 Bullitt even beats the 08 Bullitt in torque below 4k rpm.

The power curve on the Bullitts is likely a bit better than the GT's, hence why the peak numbers are alot larger but they tend to cut better times at the track.

dollarbill: How do you like the Accell coil packs on your car? They work well?

From what I read was GTs on the SN-95 platform from 1994-1997 were rated at 215 hp. Then in 1998 Ford bumped em up to 225 hp. Then from 1999-2004 the GTs were rated at 260 hp. Which is funny because the Cobras from 1994-1998 were rated at 260 hp according to evry article I have read.

96-98 Cobras were 305 HP, 99/01's 320 HP.

94/95 Cobras still used the 5.0 engine, I forget what they were rated at but many say they were slighty under-rated.

thats a given:rolleyes:

were talking PI cars here, and they 98's bump was computer, *exhaust related* which proved be be nadda.

Really? I thought the problem was Ford drastically over rated the hp of those cars. Hence that big recall where they had to fix them all to get that true hp rating.

EDIT: Dont get me wrong Im not trying to start an argument by any means. lol. Im just trying to get all my facts STRAIGHT so Im letting you all know what I have read over the years.

Nope. The 99's had a head issue that put them down on HP from what they were rated at. Ford fixed the 99's under recall. The 01's didnt have that problem though.

I think the 5.0 Cobras were rated at 280 or something around there, but alot of people claim they dyno fairly high to only make 280.
