What can i do to my car with $1,200.00?

I think the labor for installing cams is $400 to $600. They have to take to whole front of the motor off, p/s pump off, a/c comp. off. Changing cams turns out to be more than it seems. I would get some gears, tuner and some nitrous, cheap easy horsepower. $550 for nitrous, $275 for tuner off ebay, $350 for gears and bearings. Good luck on your decision. But it all depends on what you want.

Yet another vote for gears and exhaust now, cams later.

From what I've read a cam install will probably run ya in the neighborhood of $2K including the price of the cams. Not sure if that includes a tune as well. Your best bang for the buck would be the gears, exhaust and a tuner.

well since i have a lot of votes for the gears, tuner and exhaust i may go that way.

I still though have no idea about what tuner i should go with. I don't what they do at all to be honest. Is it easy to use? Do you have to know what to set your car to or is it preset? What brand is a good one??

IMHO I would do L/T Headers, Matching O/R mid pipe (with mil eliminators), and the catback of your choice

That will make a noticable difference on the dyno and you will get to enjoy a badass sounding car...

As for my exhaust i am just swapping the cats for the race pipes. I also may buy new resonators. I have to do some searching though to find out what those "shotguns" and "power flos" sound like.

I was planning on going with a FRPP 4.10s. Do i need to get a whole kit with it or do i just buy the gear and pinion and be done with it?

Also the SCT Xcal 3 tuner. Do i need to buy any thing else in order to use it or do i just buy the tuner and then i am done?

I found a place down the street from me that will do the whole install (parts, bearings, shims, the whole nine yards) for 550.00 not including taxes. So needless to say i am getting a bigger rear gear next weekend.

Sweet! :nice:

Sweet man, your going to love them. :nice: $550 is an average price I would say. When I had mine installed I only paid $250. :p . that's only because I knew the guy though.

Yeah its 550 for everything. Parts and labor and lube and all that good stuff. Believe me this guy is the cheapest/most reasonable guy in town. There is a place two doors down from him that quoted me 700 just for the labor. Not even including the parts or lube or anything else. Plus a lot of other places wouldn't do performance work. So when this guy quoted me 550 out the door i knew i wasn't getting taken for a ride.

I am also getting my cats replaced with straight pipes that weekend too. Hopefully my car isn't going to be too loud. That is the only thing i am worried about. How loud is it inside the car is another good question too?

if you dont want it loud dont go with the LM1's

i have the LM1's and the LM2's andthe 1's are loud and nasty sounding. they make you car extreamly loud but i do enjoy them from time to time. i will be taking the 2's off and putting the 1's back on when i get the new engine in there.

Well i went to go see my performance shop and talk to the owner about what i can do and what he thinks i should do and he basically said the same thing as you guys.

So i amy save up for this and do it all at once instead of going back two or three times.

Torque Conversion (10.5")
4.10 gears
Exhaust work (fixing exhaust leak)/02 simulators

All that came to just around 2k maybe a little less if i do it all at once.

or i could do cams and get that done for probably around $300 less. Its up to me.

I wish i could have gotten the work done for less but as of right now there is no place near me that can match his prices. Plus its so convenient being righ in my town only like 5 minutes from my house.

As for the exhaust. The guy at the shop went for a drive with me and suggests that i go with a baffled muffler to provide my car with a little more back pressure. So i may go with the powerflos. If i do i am gonna try and change them myself to save myself some cash.
