Diff took 4 Qts?

One possibility is that the rear end is at a angle and all of the fluid is running into an axle tube. Should take only 3 qrts at most.

i uses 4 32 ounce bottles of Lucas gear oil with 5ounces of friction modifier.
The car is on level ground and when i put my pinkie in the fill hole it doesn't reach the fluid.
I also have a FRPP girdle if that makes a difference.

anyone else? Should i drain some fluid?I just did mine when I did my axles and it took 3 quarts. One question this thread made me think of. If I forgot to put friction modifier in with the gear oil, can I still do it now. I have only driven it like 5-10 times since I put it in. What kind of harm can be done if you forget to put it in?
It will ruin the clutches in your trac lock. If you just had the rear end rebuilt it would be a good idea to put it in now so you don't have to rebuild it again. If you go to your local ford dealership they should have it for like 5 or 10 bucks...I can't remember.
FM lowers the coefficient of friction. This reduces the lifespan of the clutches but is done to keep the rear from chattering. Running with no modifier just means the rear could chatter while each wheel is at different speeds (with regard to one another). The clutches themselves would actually thoeretically last longer however. Auto-X guys routinely run without FM. FWIW, I use synthetic fluids with some modifier (in the formula) and don't add any extra.
88, are you putting your pinky in the factory fill hole? That's the one I would use. Your girdle's fill hole might be higher up than the factory one. If too much fluid is introduced, you can start blowing some out the vent.

I wouldnt even go that far. With the car totally level, there's no reason why you shouldnt be able to remove the factory fill plug and add or remove fluid as needed.
You could even use something like a piece of bendable metal (coat hanger, etc) to dip through the hole. This might give a better idea of where the level is at (just dont drop the metal rod).

the girdle fill hole isnt the same level as the 8.8 fill hole. You should remove your factory plug and fill from the girdle fill hole till the fluid is at the same level as the factory hole.
Thanks to all. But since i started hearing a horrible noise coming from the driver side rear, sounded like a bearing)? i called my mechanic and told him to send a flat bed and do the rear again.
If he doesn't get it right this time, we'll have to talk about him buying me a completely new rear from Curry or FRPP. I really am getting sick of this crap with this rear!
With the money i already spent, it was cheaper to buy a complete rear already assemble except for brakes!

Yeah, fill it though the factory hole in the front of the pig. I made the mistake once of filling it through my girdle cover, and it would leak out of the axles seals and mess up my wheels. It made them super dirty because dirt stuck everywhere the fluid was.
2-1/2 quarts is what it should take.
