Everybody! Im looking for some help for my 85Gt.. I was looking to converting my GT into a 5lug. My other mustangs were always in the 87-93 range. So that conversion was easy. But i see theres no conversion for these types...

Would I have to change the Spindles and Calipers from an 87-93 to be able to get that conversion?

Also, would a 94+ Mustang spindle and all the brake components fit on the 85Gt..

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Do it just like the 87's, the only real difference is the 85's had a slightly smaller front rotor than the 87's and up.

You might have to change the cailper braket, but other than that its a cake walk

http://sn95brakes.com Look in the 79-93 5 lug section. The rotors are smaller than 87-93, plus the spindles are different, basically the same as 87-93 4 cyl spindles. SN95 stuff will all work, but if you reuse your struts, you will need spacers since the spindle mounting point is narrower than the 79-86 cars.

Options are:

1. Ranger rotors and same 85 Mustang calipers.
2. 87-93 V8 spindles and calipers and SVO 5 lug rotors.
3. SN95 setup. This is best, you can run any 94-04 Mustang wheel, which is not possible on the rotor swap conversions.

This is awesome!

Thanks for the website, I practically got all my information that I needed!.. Now to begin the work is next. I think im gonna go with the SN95 brake system.. this way I can put on my Mach 1 stocks.. lol...

Does this mean if I dont want to reuse the struts, I can actually get the SN95 Struts to avoid the spacers?

im going to try and answer a few questions and correct some mis information.

you can use the 94+ spindles, you will need to either use 94+ aarms, or use a stack of washers of about .330. i used 3 grade 8 5/8" ID washers. or you can press sn95 ball joints into your control arms.

if you want to just slap some 5 lug rotors on it you cannot use the lincon, you have to use what i THINK are ranger rotors, but i dont remember the exact year spread. the spindle on the early cars is small the later cars. but using the sn95 upgrade would be better anyway.

youll want to use fox struts, most of the guys on lowered sn95 cars use them, the fox struts are shorter.

I came asross this post searching for information on ball joints and tie rod ends for a 5 lug conversion on a 89. I'm using 95 spindles, do i need to use 95 ball joints and/or tie rod ends or will the 89s work? Is there a how-to write up anywhere that you are aware of? Thanks
Tim

If you need new ball joints, I would get the 95 ones just to keep from needing the spacers. MOOG brand are the best of the aftermarket ones. But you can not use the 95 tie rod ends since they have a different thread than the Fox inner tie rods and will not mount to your stock rack.
