I need some help with the rearend of my car. I'm going to swap out the rearend and put in an 8.8'' because I will also be adding a supercharger. What should I do? Go to the salvage yard and grab one off a GT and rebuild it? Where can I get one? I don't know much about rearends. What will I need for a swap? (Will I need to change the yoke on my driveshaft..etc) Any info or advice woul be awesome.

Thanks!

Did you just take the rearend off a GT or can you just buy the kit from Delk Performance? If you go to Delk Performance, look under Specials on the left hand side and it's the first item, would that work? Like I said, when it comes to rearends I'm not much use.....

I got a salvage rear diff with axles included. I was planning on putting in 3.73 gears but I dropped the hammer a little too hard and tore one of the planetary gears to hell. 10" wide rear tires will do that. They hook a little too hard. So mine came straight from a GT and went right in. There are things that you will not use.
1. There are sensors on a GT with ABS. I just took them off. There was no where to plug them into.
2. There is another set of brackets for a second set of shocks. The v6 has no place for these either.
But everything else will bolt right up. No need to change yokes or anything. At least I didn't have to. My rear came out of a 2003. My car is a 2002.
All brake hardware will bolt right up. Just be sure to loosen up your E-brake cable and make sure you don't bind any hoses when lowering the old rear out or putting the new one in. My rear brakes were smoking when I test drove. I had too much tension on the E-brake.
Also take the drive shaft out first. I didn't thinking that it would be easier to remove with the rearend down. It WAS NOT!!!
I hope this helps. If you have any other questions post it here on this thread or PM me. I will be glad to help. I wish I would have had some help. I changed mine with just good 'ol figuring things out. Also have a friend help. I did mine alone and it took me 6 hours. I could prolly change one in 2 hours now that I know exactly what I am doing and with the help of a friend to lift things. Also that kit is ridiculous. That is just the insides. That doesn't include the diff. Just get you a good salvage rearend and put some good gears and a T-Loc in. You will be happy with the results

so nothing needs to be done with the transmission, driveshaft, or breaks? just go to a salvage yard and get a rearend? ok. thanks for all the help man, i appreciate it!

ohh I forgot to ask. With the 8.8'' rearend, t-lok, and 3.73's, how much more stress is that going to put on the transmission? and is that going to kill my gas mileage? i run the car on 92 octane because of the predator tuner so gas just sucks.

IT shouldn't affect it too much. I still get pretty good as long as I keep my foot outta the floor. Did u notice a marked increase in power with the tuner. 5-6 HP just aint worth $400 to me but if it adds a good bit I might get one. As far as stress on the Tranny....shouldn't be anymore than stock. just remember to find a rear from a 99-04. Other years will not work w/0ut modification. 99-04 will direct bolt. Just remember that.

Yeah, the car has a little more get-up-and-go through the entire RPM range now. It's not a big increase, I'd say 10 HP at the very least, but that's just a guess. You can do all sorts of other cool stuff with it too. I changed the rev limiter and put my speed limiter up to 170 MPH. The only catch is that you have to run the car on 91 or higher octane because the tuner extracts everything it can out of every bit of gas for the extra power.

I got mine for $350 from americanmuscle.com, free shipping too so thats all you pay.

ok so i havent gotten an 8.8'' rearend yet. but i was thinking, would putting a Mach 1 rearend with brakes be as easy or the same as putting a GT rearend on my V6. as soon as the 3.8 craps out i will more than likely put in a 4.6 Mach 1 crate engine in it so thats why i'm wondering.

i looked around but found nothing specific to a mach 1 rearend.
