hey guys you think a cold air in. will make a noticable diff. n performance and sound, or is just a gimick, they all look the same and you can get some fo 90 bucks all the way to 350, need some advice

They do make a difference in sound when WOT. With that said the performance difference is negligible, if there is one its not much. There is some debate as to whether the chrome/stainless type allow too much heated air in and thus hurt performance but not much solid there. My advice, if you want one for the looks get one and don't worry about the price. I got a chrome one for dress up in the engine bay and of course that cool sound at WOT. :hail2:

The primary performance gain from a CAI is the weight that is saved from your wallet weight reduction mod

 You'll gain afew RWHP. People knock them but I bet 90% of people have them. They make the engine bay look nicer too. The less factory plastic crap, the better. People are lucky to gain afew RWHP with bigger T.B.'s and look how many people have those.

CobraRed, every time a CAI thread pops up, you're like Johnny-on-the-spot with that comment. I think it's hilarious!

I am? I don't remember saying it before. But i do bang on CAI's a good amount - they should call them hot air intake, feel a peice of plastic under ur hood - then feel a piece of aluminum.

BTW, just noticed - we have almost identical mods.

Maybe it wasn't you, but someone has made a comment about the performance gains from the wallet-lightening mod every time a CAI thread comes up.

P.S. We both have Hammer shifters and Magnapacks because I bought them after seeing / hearing them on your car :nice:

Wow, one of the best compliments i've gotten on my car - I appreciate, you can't believe that.

On topic, CAI's: at least 20rwp (assuming you put a type R sticker on the heat shroud)

Um, I had better experience with a CAI.

Sometime back in 2002 I ran at NE Dragway 2 consecutive weeks. One week with stock garbage, 2nd week with ebay cheapo CAI. I went there again so my friend could run his motorcycle. Regardless, i was running 99.xx MPH all night long, maybe 6 runs total. The following week i had my ebay/$40 cai on, and was running high 101 trap speeds. This was in the middle of the summer, temp was probably the same.

From my experience, I recommend the CAI. However, there are a lot of companies selling $200 intakes that are the exact same as a generic CAI on ebay. Buy a cheapo, toss the filter and buy a K&N/S&B, etc. I dont get these turkeys that say "you can fry eggs on it, its so hot!" Ive ran one in my 02, and my other fox body Mustangs... never experienced this so called "heat". The whole engine throws heat, everything will be warm.

The gain you saw was from better filter and air silencer removal - i never said those were worthless, just the CAI system.

I saw 2 10ths with my Shaker and Mach CAI.... take that for what it's worth, IMO the Mach shaker is the only "real" CAI... all the others just have a bigger filter...

What are guys getting with the "headlight removal mod" at the track? 1 10th?

IMO a CAI provides more air flow, but most have the engine bay heat mod added into and counteract the effect, so the end result is bling and a tad faster ETs.

I have a JLT, and I didn't notice anything when I put mine on. It looks a lot better though, and the price was right ($40 eBay special lol)

EDIT: The reason it was so cheap was that it was missing a couple of pieces. All I did was email JLT, and he shipped them to my door free of charge. He even paid for shipping! Best customer service I've seen.
