Cobra front bumper for 02 GT

Yeah I agree with you guys on that - looks better with the intercooler...I think the thing I dont like about the 01 is the slope when you look at it from the front though:

vs. the straight edge of the 03:

Just an opinion though...both look good in their own right

What i dont like about the 03 bumper is how boxy it looks. its too square looking IMO. the 99/01 Bumper is more rounded and I love the slope at the bottom. Its real badass with a mach 1 chin.

Guys, I am reading that the 03-04 bumper cannot line up properly with the stock GT hood? Is this true? Is the grille on the 03-04 cobra bumper too high for the GT hood or too short?? What exactly is the issue and what needs to be fixed?

I really like the way the 03-04 bumper looks in person, but Blinkstang's signature has me REALLYl liking the 99/01...and what i like more is that the 99/01 doesn't require any mods.

damn i love that shaker hood...i know :OT:

But I do need to look into a new bumper, I hate the stock GTs!

Will the '03-'04 mount up with the '01 GT scooped hood? Not worried about wiring mods. Anyone have a pic of that combo?

I don't like the thin black trim piece on the bottom of the '99-'01? Is that just a piece that can be removed or is it molded on?

Yes, my friend, with a little ingenuity, it will.

Did mine just a few months ago...

03 GT with Cobra bumper cover

I just finished installing a 03/04 Cobra front bumper cover on my 03 GT. It was an OEM cover I picked up second hand (new but never installed) on Ebay and luckily came with the driving light assemblies and bezels. It was a direct bolt on with only one mod required. As was previously mentioned, the two uprights next to the headlights interfere with the stock GT hood. Drilling new holes for the plastic push pins 1/2 inch back moved the uprights into a safe position.

Electrical - the driving light connectors are the same size but there are three problems. One is the pins are spaced differently, however the connector and plug will still mate and make the electrical connection because of how the pins are installed. Two is the connectors are keyed by slots and tabs to prevent them from mating 180 degrees out. I used a dremel tool to remove the tabs inside the new Cobra light assemblies. Three is that the stock GT wiring harness will not reach the Cobra light assemblies and I had to pull loose the first body/harness restraint.

Chin skirt/Valence - I ordered a brand new valence from my local Ford dealer. I asked about attaching hardware and they said it required 8 special rivets, nothing else. The rivets were expensive at $6 each but I figured I had to have them. Here's what the N805592-S100 rivets look like. The rivets have a wide head and two slots cut in the shank so that it flares out like a drywall screw anchor. Now that I'm done, I think that standard 3/16 aluminum rivets would work fine. Turns out there are 8 rivet holes and 3 plastic push pin holes. The 1/4 inch push pins go in the front 3 holes and 4 rivets back along each side.

Running pony emblem - I also ordered the XR3Z-8A224-AA bracket and pony emblem from the Ford dealer. Mounting is straight forward except you have to cut a hole in the plastic trim for the bottom of the bracket to slide into. There's a square hole in the body behind the trim that will guide you where to cut the hole. Look in from the engine side. Ford has special order anti-tamper screws (2 needed) for the bracket. I used sheet metal screws, filled in the heads with sealant and painted over it. I replaced the pony with the Stars & Stripes version from americanmuscle.com. Their pony looks great but their clips were too loose to grab the mounting pins. A quick pop with a hammer closed the clip's tabs together and it worked OK from there.

Good luck with your install!

Pete

I hate to bring this thread back from the dead, but for any of you who completed the swap I have a couple of questions?
A.)How did you hook the chin spoiler to the bumper?
B.)I bought brand new foglights, bezels, and the semi-circle bracket thingy's and also got the swap electrical plugs. How does it all mount up? Any pictures of behind the bumper would be great. I'm a little disapointed that none of these expensive parts comes with any kind of attaching hardware what-so-ever.
C.) Anyone have a picture of the redrilling step when you have to mount the horns back half and inch?

My main concern is mounting the fog lights. I really dont understand how they mount up and / or what screws I will need to make it all work.
