Today i was driving home from galveston and noticed a lot of tire smoke and a bunch of imports at the local greyhound track (has a HUUUUUGE parking lot) and just HAD to stop by and antagonize the local ricer gang.

Turns out it was a drift competition and I gotta say I definatly gained some respect for some of those guys. To be honest there really weren't any ricers, just car enthusiasts like me, who enjoy drifting. I almost feel bad for them because the obviously cant afford a mustang like myself and have to make do with what they can afford. There were some pretty impressive imports there too...

With that being said I was impressed, a lot of them had some serious driving skills...although drifting isn't my cup of tea it looked like a lot of fun and almost made me want to go out and buy a pos import to drift...I was tempted to join in but i didn't have my helmet with me...lol i cant imagine a mustang being a good platform for a drift car but there was an s197 there doing pretty well...

Anyway just wanted to say that i know we give ricers and imports a hard time a lot of the time but not every import driver is a ricer and i think they deserve respect, afterall they are just car enthusiasts like us....It sucks hollywood has to make them look bad in movies like fast and furious because its really not like that in MOST cases, now i hate ricers like everyone else but ive met just as many mustang owners who id consider ricers as i have civic owners....

So next time you see a modded prelude or civic hold off on the ricer judgments until you actually have a chance to meet the person...I am definately guilty of being judgemental of these people and today really opened my eyes to all that nonsense...

  • Sponsors (?)

actully i dont kno the name but i belive thiers a s197 thats sponsered by falken i think that from what i can tell is really good at drifting.

i dont really have a probelm w/import as much as ricers.

The two biggest cars on the pro circuirt are (were) a Mustang and a Viper

I don't get the points part of the sport, but it does look like fun, and does take skill.

My brother was born 14 years after I... he is in that crowd of "ricers" so to speak. He drive a Tiburon with some rediculous mods and "enhancements". He is also the president of one of this ricer clubs "Over the Edge Customs".

I'll tell you what, you would be hard pressed to find a more honest or caring person in the world. He and his friends are ricers for sure but there's not a one that wouldn't give you the shirt off their back or come over to help if they saw you stuggling under a raised hood in a parking lot.

For the past 4 years his club has held a car show as a fund raiser for Southern New Jersey Police and Fire Depts. I go every year as the "staff photographer"... an old school muscle car driving hard rocker hanging in the den of slacker ricer punks driving cars that would give HotWheels a nightmare. yet I find these guys are stand up people with decent vaules.

Yeah; their music sucks :D but I have a lot of respect for them and the time and energy they put into their cars.

im sorry to say but IMO those are not ricers. they are import drivers. a ricer is some stuck up little punk who thinks his four banger is fast and does nothing but talk junk about how his car goes 0-60 in 3.8 because of his fart can and a wing then he has a bunch of stickers on the side of his car of things he anit even got.

now if your bro is cool and doesnt slam the gas as he drives by you with you hood up (belive me people they do this) he is kool in my book i wish more of them where like this.

Both Von Gitten Jr. and Ken Gushi drive wicked drift stangs. Gitten's is the falken one and Gushi's has the aluminator engine in it. If I remember correctly Gitten was the first american to ever win some drift competition. Its pretty fun stuff.:nice:

I seen em run a couple times and the skill is amazing when done right :nice: And yeah the Falken Mustang still kicks ass on the circuit. The points are tottaly subjective and once it becomes more linear itl be a better sport. I often wonder why some of the low buck guys dont try some old Foxes, easy to drift.....or at least get the tail out

Agreed. A ricer is a type of person with a certain type of car, usually a slow FWD 4cyl.

Cars like RX-7's, RX-8's, 350Z's, Supra's, Evo's, STi's, S2000's, etc. are what are known as "nice cars". Anyone who calls these cars "rice" are moron's who deserved to get punched in the face and laughed at. Sure they have their respective douchebag owners but I'm sure the percentage of d-bag Mustang owners far outweigh thiers, at least from what i've seen.

As far as drifting, seeing it in person with the pro's behind the wheel is extremely entertaining. They're going ALOT faster than they seem on tv:nice:

my neighbor actually has a very nicely done civic, turbo v-tec with a nice looking body kit. this thing has everything done to it. puts down above 300hp ... i respect him for the work that he has put into it. i actually wouldnt mind owning it. he is also a very nice guy..

but his friends are the biggest bunch of doped up ricer rich kids that i have ever seen. always beating on thier cars, burning out every time they leave his house, talking **** at me... some import owners are really cool.. its the ricers that give import owners a bad name

if they ever park in your yard call the local salvage yard and tell them you have a running car that you want to part with. tell them its free if they pick it up in 30 mins.

Yes, a ricer is a type of person. It's a mentality. It has nothing to do with the type of car. It's what HAS BEEN DONE to the car, aside from stock components, that is a byproduct of the ricer mentality.

A fast car is a fast car no matter where it comes from.

while i will agree with you to a certain extent...its not the car that makes the ricer, its the person behind the wheel.

an sc300 is a nice car. however an sc300 with a wicked fart can lowered with camber thats so off, im pretty sure he is buying tires every 4000 miles cause the inside of the tire wears so bad and bounces back and forth like a front end loader, and so many stickers you would think he is running nascar, now that is rice.

i would happily call any car you listed rice, if the drivers attitude and modifications to his car fit the description....

funny you mention that a lot of the cars i saw had camber that was way off like that...
