:mad::mad:First post.

Just bought a new 08 v-6 mustang a week ago, blue, and I worked into the deal to have white racing stripes. They asked what kind did I want, and I said the ones that go all of the way from the front to the back. I dropped it off this morning to have them put on, and the ****'n things only cover the top of the hood, roof and spoiler/trunk. I was really expecting them to cover the front air dam back to the rear fascia. Before the body shop guy even opened the box, he told me that the kind I wanted are the Shelby stripes, and he guaranteed that these wouldn't be the Shelby ones. Opened, and lo and behold, he was right. They don't even cover the angled lip of the hood. He also told me that Ford won't warranty them past 6 months, and they'll look like crap after that anyway. I had seen some v-6's on other lots with the "Shelby" looking stripes, but the body shop told me that that dealer used a "guy" that puts on really cheap crap, so I don't know that I've ever seen one from the factory.

I feel duped, but what can I do? I hope they'll look good, but as of right now, I have no idea.:mad:

Sorry guys, no pics, it's in the shop right now having them applied.

Well, the parts dept guy didn't have a clue at all, the body shop guy seemed pretty smart and acted like he knew what he was talking about.

I had to go ahead and have them put on, I've been looking forward to this for so long, I couldn't wait. All I felt was disappointment when we went out and laid them on top of the car (backing still on, of course).

Do the v-6's come from the factory with the stripes installed? How do they run?

The Ford factory stripes (whether they are for a GT or V6) are not full length--they only cover the top panels of the car.

The Shelby GT stripes, or most aftermarket stripes, cover the entire car.. Honestly, I would not take delivery of the car unless the correct stripes are installed.

Not to be rude, but your car is a V6... You will honestly be better off without the stripes..

Well I'm sorry that i can't afford the GT. I appreciate your advice.:hail2:

I also would not use the stripes, whether it is a GT or a V6. I prefer the stealth look. Personal taste. Do what you like. If you are not pleased with these stripes, don't put them on and hold out for what you thought you were getting. A dealer interested in keeping your business and who wants you talking nice about him instead of the opposite will take care of it. One who won't shouldn't get your business or anyone else's.

Congrats on the new purchase, don't let these guys get to you. Most of them are trolling around waiting for someone to do something they're 'not supposed to do to their own car.' lol

I would go back to the dealer and tell them that is not what you bought and to make them fix it. Go directly to the manager if you have to, salesmen don't know dick most of the time.

Hope you get it all sorted out. Welcome to the board.

Welcome and congrats on the '08:nice:
Definitely stop them from putting the wrong stripes on! What is up with only a 6 month warranty for the stripes????? Taken care of properly, they should last you at least several years... I agree with having full stripes or not at all.

Yes. Get the stripes you want or else you will be severely disappointed.

I dont know why the ford stripes are like that. You would think the ford factory stripes would be the best, but they are not.

Get some aftermarket puppies and have them applied. you will be glad you did.

Yep, I don't care if it's a V-6 or GT, the full stripe kit looks cool. I agree with a lot of these guy's, the stripe's your getting aren't acceptable. For the price of a new stang, you should get what you want, get it done right the first time. Dealer agreed to give you stripes, so your the one they need to please. Don't take second best or no for an answer, a deal is a deal. I'm sure you explained what you wanted and they agreed, so it's on them.

+1

and mention something about a survey your gonna get for purchasing a new car and see what they do then:rolleyes:

Thanks guys for the comments. After the initial disappointment wore off (and I got to actually see the car), I'm pretty happy with it. I think it pretty much has to have the stripes on the top, since it already came with the appearance package with the side stripes, to look right.

I think it would probably look better with the full stripes, but at least these do go from the end of the hood to the end of the spoiler.

It also doesn't hurt that my wife's extremely hot friend told me that it looked awesome last night.

This is the only pic that I got to take, as it was raining all night after I picked it up. Poor lighting in the garage makes it look kinda bad, but it actually looks pretty good.

Oh yeah, like someone else already said, this is the stripes you get unless you get the Shelby. Now I know! I looked it up on the ford website, even the GT only has the top only stripes. The Shelby stripes wouldn't work on a V-6, anyway, because all of the stripes are pre-cut, and the body panels just aren't the same size/shape. I don't want somebody cutting up the stripes to make them fit, because I'm sure they would ruin them. My only other option would be to have that "guy" install the other stripes, from the other dealer, and that would be out of pocket.

I've cooled down considerably after seeing the car and how good it looks.

Now, if I could only get rid of that annoying rattle from the dash...

Cool that you enjoy what you got as that is all that matters anyway. The only differences between the V6 and the standard GT that affects the stripes are the lower part of both bumpers are a little different. Also the comment from the hot chick can't hurt either:nice:
As far as the rattle...welcome to the wonderful world of the S197...turn the stereo up, get louder exhaust or check various trim panels for places to stick extra padding:D
