To cobra clone or not?

Mustang GT with Cobra emblems = "FOBRA"

Have you seen GT with just the mach 1 front lip? They look so clean :)

But if you are doing a clone do it all the way. Make sure you do the oil cooler in the front. By the way the "COBRA" rear bumper started 96+. So if you put 96 "Cobra" rear bumper on 94-95 and put 96- up cobra hood on our cars and puttting 96-up tail lights will make a "TOTAL MUT". Let me put it in a better way...

"Hybrid FOBRA"

LMAO.

screw that holy grail crap....if they are that sacred why do a 351 swap into it. Or change anything for that matter. Popycock put them badges on there if you like them they are bad ass badges.

I might throw them on there after I paint my car but when people ask me I will just say "Ford couldn't build this one so I built this one myself."

Just didnt come with any real build #'s :D

FYI I didnt swap anything on the car It was like that when I bought it. Besides I dont know of to many people who would opt to have a 302 5.0 VS a 351 5.8. Plus we are not talking about the motors anyway, its not the motor that is the holy grail topic its just what the badges represent. Just just my opinion just like anyone else's, neither decision is either right or wrong but if its not that big of a deal of what to do then why is the thread here to begin with? This is my 5th Mustang and the closest thing Ive done to any of them was my last 95 GT I put Cobra floor mats in it.

I think those of us who do have cobra's just see it differently then those who dont, it dosnt make us better or our cars better its just the image it gives off. I see Mustangs all the time but I see real Cobra's a lot less, if everyone out there (which is not the case) ran around w/ badged out cobra clones it would take away from it.

I just dont think anybody should be bashed for wanting or putting cobra emblems on their cars by anybody Cobra owners or otherwise. Now if some puts a GTR badge on it thats getting stupid or the one I saw last week had "GTR 5.0 Cobra" that was ugly.

If it's not a COBRA, It simply is NOT a COBRA. No matter how hard you try.

Here is a thought. This is what i was going to do until recently i ran short on funds. POOP... :(

Two 1965 or 1966 GT fender emblems on each side (They only come in "red" and they are bad ass looking for our years) made by scott drake

3D carbon pony front grill emblem.

I have seen this done on one car here locally and it looks totally different and makes the "GT" really stand out.

I think company who started was california mustang. They started to do this on all their "GT" cars. from sn95 to current mustang GT's.

I personally like this combo.:)

Yeah SO put these instead. with cobra front bumper ONLY and 95 Cobra R hood ONLY. and leave the rear MUSTANG GT bumper alone with the tail lights. THIS will be cool :) I want to see it done by someone here at stang net soon...

Im not bashing the thread starter or anyone else who has done this or thought about doing it. If you post a thread asking for opinions on to do something or not your going to get responses on both sides of the fence. If I was bashing anyone what I write would not be so toned down, its just simply how I feel about it. Like Ive said I have nothing wrong with cloning a Cobra thats fine, Im not saying any GT should not have a Cobra R hood or front/rear bumper, its just the badges that rub me the wrong way.

i have a cobra front bumper and a 96-98 cobra hood. i also love the white faced gauges and would probably do them if i had nothing else to do.

and even though my car is a whole lot faster than any factory cobra from the same era, and one could even argue that a setup like mine is how the cobra should have been built, i would never put cobra emblems on mine because it is not a cobra. to me, putting cobra emblems on it just feels wrong.

still, some people who know the differences may look at it and say to themselves that i am trying to fool people into thinking i have a cobra when i dont.

so badges or not, it is a slippery slope. you can't make everyone happy, so just worry about making it the way you like it.

I was thinking of doing the same thing except the cobra badges. Instead, I would just use a v6 bumper that just says "Mustang" and just use the 302 badges on the sides. Let every one else wonder what it is. You still get the style and I think 94-95 cobra came with the "Mustang" bumper too!

I personally wanted to keep my car as "GT" as possible, but like many have said, whatever floats your boat.

If I were in your spot, I'd spent the money elsewhere on performance rather than mocking up Fobra plans, but then again you have yourself a pretty stout combo!!

Its entirely up to you. I can see both sides of it equally and must say that I specifically kept the Saleen name off my car for the simple fact that its not a real Saleen. Thats just my way of thinking and I would expect you to do the same as its your car and your decision. Like some one else already stated Ford just gave us a shell what you do with it is up to you.:nice:

My car does have alot of the Cobra stuff on it and even the emblems. It had some of it done when I bought it like: Cobra front bumper, cobra wheels, emblems, Cobra steering wheel and floor mats. I did add the 96-98 rear Cobra bumper and Cobra R hood. I also put a SCT, not SVT emblem on the rear where the SVT would have been. People all the time tell me: "Hey nice Cobra", "Dude, bada** Cobra", "Awesome Cobra", etc... and I am quick to tell them that it is actually a GT with Cobra stuff on it. I have never or never will try and pass my car off as a Cobra to impress anyone or try to make it bring more money. I just like the way they look. Insurance is also cheaper and you don't have to pay the premium cost when purchasing. If I had a real Cobra, I would personally not mod it very much other than a couple bolt ons that could easily be removed and put back all original because those are the cars that will be worth the money one day. I can't leave anything stock, so thats why I bought a GT.

Everyone makes good points either side of the issue. I know that everyone that does this is not trying to pass their GT off as a Cobra but there are enough people that do. Even if anyone decides to do this at least do it to a GT thats a V8 and not a pathetic V6 like in the picture a few posts above. Yes the ultimate decision is yours b/c its your car and you can do with it as you wish. Ive never owned a Cobra until now but always wanted one and now that I do have one I just see it as cheesy to badge a non cobra. A simple look at the interior or vin tag or brake booster can confirm if its a real cobra or not for those with the knowledge of how to tell but most people would just think its a real cobra. I know some do this to pass it off as a real one and I dont think that is the intention here at all but with others its a different story so thats why I take offence to the whole issue. Its like saying, well its ok to badge it if your not really trying to pass it off as one but if you are trying to then its wrong and you shouldnt do it. I just think there is no gray area here IMO and if one purpose for doing it should be considered not kosher then so should the other.

Why not sport saleen if the Kit is from saleen???
