NOOB with a GT40P Question

Hi everyone, I've been searching for about a month now reading everyone's opinion on what fits and what doesn't fit, what must be modded and what is a direct bolt on.

Currently I just finished the body work on my 1966 coupe, and it is about ready to leave for paint. It was a 6cyl automatic and I've done everything to make it a V8, 8" rear, disc brakes, v8 suspension, T5 with parts from Modern Driveline. (everything but the steering box, which i'll do in the winter after i get it on the road) I'm trying to build a street monster 302 with the GT40Ps and a comp cams xe268h cam combo. So far I have all the parts for the rebuild but the exhaust.

So I just want to ask, who is running GT40P heads on their classic stang? What does your exhaust setup look like? If you are running long tubes and are lowered do you scrape? Does anyone have cable clutch clearance issues?

I understand primaries might be dented, but as long as we aren't talking craters, that is OK by me.

Thanks!

Do yourself a favor and get another set of heads. Believe me. Burning through 3 sets of plug wires and my clutch cable because I was limited to a few set of headers that fit. Now I have FPA headers and with the ps relocation bracket there is no way I can make a u turn because of the poor turning radius. I have the hydraulic clutch conversion and if you are not running ps then it may work better. Yes the FPA's do scrape and I have stock suspension. Sell the P heads Sell-em!!!!

I have the P's, you can make them work. I use some cheapy tri-y headers which I had to modify by cutting out the #5&6 primaries and re-routing them down before they turn back. These could not be dimpled because the sparkplug shout strait into the middle of the tube.

I run a cable clutch and have had no problems. The car is lowered and I have no clearence issues. I like the P's just fine but I gotta tell you, they wont make a street beast. They are afterall a factory head. My car is quick and will slowly pull on my buddies 04 mach1 but I plann on replacing them for some dart pro 1's.

They make a good head to get your car going but could be a pain, especially if you got them used. I'd say save up for some aftermarkets

thanks for the info! I was thinking about doing that, but may have found something else that fits unmodified for little money. How much did you cut the coils?? I'm running the same suspension setup as you with global west uppers.

and with your list of mods, I would consider that a street beast! but we may have different standards...lol
