Evaporator Change in a '68?

Hi bchampion I just installed a new evaporator last month on my 68...you're right the shop manual doesn't give much help..the job itself wasn't too bad hardest part was getting the air circulation doors off ( shafts were pretty seized up on mine) and changing heater core(tight fit...reproduction parts )if you have a nice clean flat bench and a lot of places to store screws in the right order they came off its a lot easier if you buy a foam kit for the heater box you may find they don't fit quite right too once again reproduction parts my rubber grommet for the evaporator tubes to heater box was shot...I was lucky enough to have a small piece of the foam kit left over and made a new one with that....as for getting the heater a/c unit out that takes a little patience and human flexibility but it does come out as the shop manual says to do it..you'll be amazed at the debris you'll find at the bottom of the heater box I cleaned mine with ordinary dish soap and a lot of rinsing ....if you have snap ring pliers for cv joints they work excellent for taking the heater box clips off regular snap ring pliers work too just not as good as cv pliers... hope this helps
