Lojack for classic cars? Costs/is it possible/etc?

  • Sponsors (?)

We will definitely put Lojak on our 65. Along with other protective devices. After a couple hundred of hours and lots of 30K what is another to protect 1K totry to protect it. A fellow at work has it on his vehicle, he had to move his vehicle one day and didn't have his fob with him. within 10 minutes both his pager and his cell phone ring and was notified his car had just been moved.

Lojack cost too much

How much does it cost to install Lojack on your car? Can it even be done with classic cars?

I'm aware they stick some sort of chip on the car, but I'm not sure if it requires a modern computer controlled engine or if you just wire up a chip somewhere on the car that is tracked via gps or something. Anyone with knowledge on the subject... chime in :)

I have a great device on my car that I can track location online with maps and photos, disable/enable starter in case it gets stolen, lock and unlock doors from my phone or pc and it costs less than Lojack. I know where my car is at all times and can tell the police where to find it if it's stolen. I got it from GPSSmartPro.com.

This device also calls you if it is taken out of a boundary area you set or is driven too fast if someone else is driving it. Phone you, beep you, text msg you, and emails you if you set it up that way. You set all parameters and it has lots of bells and whistles. Actually quite fun to have and use and is cheaper than Lojack and does soooo much more for the money. You can have it with no monthly monitoring fees as simple anti-theft device or small monthly fees to receive alerts. You can also have delayed activation to activate whenever you want for one time fee of about $40 good for a month if stolen.

Oh yeah! And it works everywhere! Lojack only works in 25 states and often experiences blocked signals from receiving by mountains, etc. This is Millennium Plus and works via satellite so is in all states anywhere with no interference (actually works in whole North American Continent.) See it at GPSSmartPro.com

If you can find a better system with a better price, more power to ya!:flag:

I read through most of the responses, but I didnt see anything posted regarding only certain counties have the ability to track via low jack.

I know that on my truck, I have lojack installed. When viewing, I believe, it was the loJack website, only metropolitan counties around Atlanta supported Lojack. (Which is good because that is where I live.) However, you may want to check to be sure that your county supports Lojack.

The thing about LoJack I don't like is that it has to go through the cops. I'd much rather know where my car is and take my 357 to go pickup my car. If someone would steal my car, I would take it rather personally.

One of the advantages of a gps system is that you can track it in real time, and maybe recover it yourself. I don't know how many cop reality shows you've seen, but it seems like every time they try to chase the crooks, the victem's car gets crashed hard. On a new car, you can get another one just like it again, but on our classics, we won't begin to get our time and money truly reimbursed.

Ho-Hum......

Okay, I can't help myself; I'm a GEEK. Worse, I'm even a "Ham radio geek". Got a veritable forest on antennas on my DD F150 4x4; and a funny-looking "rear-window defogger" in the back window. Got a plastic "ammo can" in my toolbox in the bed; wires going into it; one for 12V, one strangely feeds to the "defogger" and thrid goes to a hockey-puck-looking thing glued to the inside of the window as well. Looks stupid as H3ll; but......

Cheap Lo-jack for geeks

Always on; transmitts my license "call-sign" every 3 minutes. About 17,000 monitoring stations and over half that many relay stations and internet gateways across the country. Cost me about $160 to build (used "walkie-talkie" radio, discontinued Radio Shack GPS, 40 bucks for the interface kit, some wiring, etc). Our local club dues are $50/year.

"Would I put one in the Cougar when it's done?" Sure, why not? - I'm secure in my geek-dom! :p
Is it 100% reliable? This answer is a question... "Is LoJack?"

Lojack is not under your control

Lojack costs any where from $700 to $800 and you need to file a police report to let them handle recovery. The tracking device I have was only $600 and it's all in my hands so I can see on my pc exactly where my car is and call the police to let them know it was stolen and where it is. Plus I can disable the car so the thieves can't start it again once they turn it off. Lojack, smojack....more expensive and does not have any other features like this one I got at GPSSmartPro.com!

I have a LoJack installed in my 65. Works great, they even come out and do test runs on it.

After my cobra was stolen and striped to the bones, and I mean to the bloddy frame, I keep lojack and the new ford system on my 08.

I can pull up both on my pc right now, and that makes the difference to me.
