Corral Day Drag Times

So I ran up to Bowling Green today for the 2008 Corral Day. Wasn't too many people there, but in the afternoon decided what the hell, and paid the extra $25 on top of the $10 spectator, and took 5 passes. With each pass I got better, except for my 4th pass, when I for some reason decided 1st gear was in the 3rd gear slot...., but for a guy who's only been on a track once before in his life, I think I did pretty solid. Last time out was 2006 in July, and I did really bad.

Pass 1

R/T - .527
60' - 2.356
330 - 6.417
1/8 - 9.699
MPH - 75.71
1000 - 12.497
1/4 - 14.858
MPH 95.80

Pass 2

R/T - .617
60' - 2.301
330 - 6.380
1/8 - 9.648
MPH - 76.17
1000 - 12.431
1/4 - 14.781
95.80

Pass 3

R/T - .560
60' - 2.315
330 - 6.392
1/8 - 9.692
MPH - 75.74
1000 - 12.480
1/4 - 14.827
MPH - 96.40

4th Pass (this was the one I started in 3rd gear)

R/T - .580
60' - 3.173
330 - 7.332
1/8 - 10.621
MPH - 75.91
1000 - 13.410
1/4 - 15.761

5th Pass

R/T - .408
60' - 2.268
330 - 6.316
1/8 - 9.584
MPH 76.28
1000 - 12.364
1/4 - 14.703
MPH - 96.58

I was proud of my 5th pass...:D

I will scan these in tomorrow, and post them up. I can definitely improve on my R/T and 60' times, but not bad for a rookie dragger. This is something I can get addicted to.

too bad the corral sucks these days......

reaction time has no effect on your overall ET. Dont worry about who is next to you, if its a trailer car, sit at the line for a second or two after its green to before you launch.

A set of stickys will do wonders for you.

You are only running 1/2 second better than my npi, which doesnt seem all that impressive but the important thing is you had fun.

I got three runs in today. The best was:
R/T - .146
60' - 2.212
330 -
1/8 - 9.79
MPH - 73.74
1000 -
1/4 - 15.198
MPH - 92.75

My first time at the track I ran a 15.1 and a 14.9 at 96mph or so.

Second time was an 1/8th mile track but I cut my times down from a 9.7 or so to a 9.1 with just a few mods and alot more seat time behind the wheel.

The times will drop the more you go and race, just keep calm behind the wheel and practice your launches.

What RPM were you shifting around?

yep Corral Day was pretty dead compared to what I've heard it used to be. shame.

14 high on mustang gt , WOW burn you car down. :ban:

well considering my car weighed in at 3,749 lbs with me in it, and I had car detail stuff in their, my camera bag and tripod, my stereo system, and 2 loaded coolers of beer, water, and sprite...I don't think that's too bad. and considering that's only the 2nd time in my life I've been on a drag strip.

About 100 rpm before redline. Part of problem with my 60' times was I was launching at about 3000-3500 rpm....a guy at the track that has a 2008 Shelby GT500 with a KB 2.6 and 650 hp at the rear wheels, said I should try launching around 2000 RPM.

Get a life. It's not that bad, especially for a stock car loaded with stuff.

By the way, how did yo fit that much crap in your trunk? Mine trunk can only hold a couple bags of grocerys because of the mach 460 base thing and the 10" sub.

Were you getting tire spin on your launches? I normally launch my NPI around 3500. If it bogs down on the launch to 2000rpm, my 60' time suffers badly. Of course, this will vary depending on your gearing and the track conditions. I've got 3.27s. With higher gears or worse track conditions, you'll want to launch lower.

i have a custom sub box i got off ebay, so it really opened up a lot of trunk space for me. my mach 460 amp rack is also gone, I took it out of the car.

yeah I didn't get too much wheel spin, but I was getting some. track conditions sucked ass...the crews did nothing in the afternoon heat to make the track conditions better...pretty sad.

btw...coolers were up front in the car...one on the passenger side floorboard (my big cooler) and my little one was behind the passenger seat.

Yeah lower your launch RPM a bit, 2k might be a little low. Shoot for 24-2600 and see how it makes out next time.

Launching over 3k on street tires you usually have to slip the clutch pretty hard in order to not spin like hell.
