19sec 1/4mile WTF?

So i went to the track today, i ran 19second, and i did a 2nd run, my tranny kept slipping going on to the 2nd gear..it just stays on 1st and revs really hard so i have to let off the gas a bit, then it shifts alright. After my 2nd run i gave up, i didn't want to fubar my Tranny cause i lived 30min from the tracks.

for the love of god will a shift kit fix this?

not too sure if the shift kit will fix your problem, but i know an aode to T5 conversion will:D

BTW,how do you like your SLP catback's?i've been seriously considering replacing my flowmasters.also,do you have any sound clip's of your exhaust?

thank's:nice:sorry i could'nt help you out more with the tranny problem.i had nothing but trouble with my aode.slugish and on a hot day,the car would lose tons of power due to the heat in the aode.i'm much more happy with the T5,regained all the power that was lost with the aode plus shifting gears is much, much more fun.

My 4.6 tbird with a 4r70w AODE does that alot. I had to keep fluid in it, and make sure your cooling lines are actually cooling. If it gets too hot, you lose a lot of shift capability. I had to wrap my cooling lines with header wrap. But that was a tbird. My 5.0 has a T5. ~~~~BOO! AODE!!!!

Eagle makes a good shift kit.

I remember that problem with my 95GT. My transmission was shot. I had to have it rebuilt. But, while I was in there, I had them put a shift kit in it, and some other beefed up parts. It was good for only 1000 miles, and same problem. They found that that one part failed, they replaced just that, and the trans was fine for the next 3 years that I owned it. I drove that car year round as well. I don't know much about A.T. but I think they called it a sprag, and they replaced it with a diode.

Yeah, I'm not sure either, I just remember when he showed me the parts the stock one was a weak POS that you could physically bend with your bare hands. The aftermarket peice he replaced it with was heavy duty and you could not bend it at all.

A bit of research comes up with this page, which explains that a mechanical diode is a purely mechanical part designed to replace older, less efficient sprags and other similar systems.

What he's talking about is often referred to as a "mechanical diode." It's a one-way clutch in the AODE

:flag: Thanks for the info guys! Always good to learn something new! :SNSign:

The trap question refers to your 1/4 mile MPH. That is a real good indication, since ET problems can result from terrible traction.

Maybe it could be your mlps? If you are planning to make too much more power, I would go ahead and upgrade your transmission. My aode gave me problems and I spent lots of time, and money trying to fix it.

Yeah guys, that's exactly what I was talking about. That was an on-going failing problem till they fixed me up with the aftermarket peice.
