It took me 5. My silly exhaust saga is finally over.

1. Install Magnaflow cat pipe and cat back.
2. Swap tailpipes for Dynomax...the Magnaflow LX pipes looked silly
3. Remove one of the clamps and weld it...the clamp broke.
4. Bring to an exhaust shop to diagnose mystery creaking...I suggested the other side where the exhaust was still clamped. They disagreed..and didn't charge me for the diagnosis.
5. Fed up with the drone at 2000RPM + (I am driving my stang daily now...no more virgin car :ban: ), I bring two dynomax super turbos in from summit, and the exhaust shop WELDS them in. Mystery creak is gone!

5 tries....exhaust is now right. If I could do it again I would have chosen the Magnaflow cat pipe and the Dynomax cat back...and had it WELDED together....just curious if anyone else has gone through anything similar!!????

Maybe since this was the virginal cars first mod the car resisted it?

Which Magnaflow mufflers were they? The Magnapacks? Or the straight-through type?

3 tries for me.

0. Started with stock, rusted out, holey mufflers.
1. Flowmaster "Force 2" catback system (3 chamber flows), clamped together with band clamps. Wanted to hear that Flowmaster sound so many people were talking about. I liked the sound, and the tail pipes fit with my PHB. However, I'm sure I didn't get the full benefit, because I didn't get the old style 2 chambers. Some drone, though, at least to me, which I grew to dislike (worried about possible hearing loss - my hearing was bad enough to begin with).
2. Replaced 3 chamber flow with 2 chamber flow on passenger side, to see if I could reduce the drone, by having unequal length mufflers, and to fit better (3 chamber is so large, had to disconnect it whenever I jacked up the rear end, so it wouldn't hit aluminum driveshaft). No reduction in drone.
3. Replaced both mufflers with Dynomax Ultra Flo mufflers. Much less drone. And I like the increased cfm, if I ever do a 347. They sound just as good as flows, to me. I have no idea what they sound like to someone outside of the car, though, and I haven't bothered to try to find out. I'm guessing that they sound good. Still using band clamps, and Mac 2.5" flow tubes.

I've only had the Ultras for a few days, but so far I'm happy with them. I think maybe I'm done.

If I could start from scratch, I'd get the Dynomax tailpipes. Don't like the "Flowmaster" logo etched into the tailpipes. No big deal, though.

If the Dynomax drone (which seems to be very slight) ever gets to be a bother, I may try the Hooker Maximum Flow mufflers, although they're probably very similar drone-wise. Might be worth a try, though.

I'll never do stock mufflers, though, because I like some sound, and also the stockers are restrictive.

I still have the stock headers and midpipe, by the way.

Mine's also a daily driver.

So, even though I read dozens of exhaust threads to try to figure out what the best sounding exhaust was, with the least drone, it took me 3 tries to get what I wanted. I guess it would have helped if I could have heard some Mustangs in person (I hear that sound clips are misleading). Without that, I guess I just had to try the exhaust for myself. Now that I think about it, maybe I should have at least listened to a few sound clips. Anyway, it was a fun experience.
