Has anyone else ever seen one of these? I was at a car show today in a little rinky dink town close by, (amazingly there were a large number of VERY nice cars) and there was a 67 Coupe there that caught my eye. It was a bright blue, seemed brighter than the one in my link, and I started looking at it and found out it's a special Texas edition called the Lone Star Special, (Bluebonnet Special). There were only 175 made, and it was a special color (Bluebonnet Blue) that only these 175 regional special models were painted. The particular example I saw was 95% original, UNRESTORED, though it looked brand new. It was sooooo nice.

As long as I've been into classic Mustangs I've never even heard of it. I did look through one of my books though, that did list this as a 67 color.

Here is a link to one :

67 did in fact have a few color "option" cars like the Lone Star and the little beauty in the link. the Lone Star is hard to find no doubt. Which brings me to make a reference point and ask the question.
In the Cougar ranks they have a built a national registry listing all cars and very specific history on the ones that are different. My past 70 is listed there.
I have ask 20 different places, forums, magazines, and even the Mustang Club of America if we have a registry like this that. No one seems to know. What about you guys.

This color is striking (folks see it and ask WHY did you paint it that color) LIKE the Bluebonnet and I intend to research to see if it is even close, mine seems to show almost white in pics!!

i was thinking the blue bonnet special cars had a darker bright blue than that one in the link. i used to have a picture of one but it was on my old hard drive that crashed a few years ago.

ten beers, your link doesn't work. what year and color was your cougar? there have been a bunch of mustang and cougar special color promotions

hey bnickel, thought I had the link working to public???? Have to fix that. My cougar was the standard Wim White with the green interior and matching vinyl top. An original 38k mile car.

Now my stang...it is actually Diamond Blue. I'll see if I can fix the linky

the diamond blue color was a standard color option, nothing "special" about it other than it may have been a mid year option. i'm not aware of any "special color" registry other than maybe the "600 Limited Edition" cars.

the cougar sounds like a strange combo with a green top. my cougar is also kind of an oddball with it's factory "two tone" paint job. where a vinyl top would normally go the roof is painted a contrasting color than the main color of the car. mine is light aqua with a white roof, which is apparently a fairly rare color combo, there are tons of cars in light aqua in solid color and with a vinyl top but only a few with the two tone option. i'll eventually order the Marti report for it to see exactly how many were made in that combo. black and white were the only colors available in the two tone package

I thought the '68 Bronco blue was a little bit darker than Grabber Blue; whereas the "bluebonnet" was a little lighter?
But I've only seen a couple-three Grabber/Competition Blue vehicles including the '70 F100 in the last issue of LFM, which doesn't really count because the magazine pics look "washed out". I've never seen a Bluebonnet Special anywhere (maybe a magazine once?)
But a friend of mine from back in the mid-late '70's had a '68 Bronco in the color you were talking about. Now maybe it was because we live in the desert and he didn't believe in waxing his "river truck"; but it looked more like a chalky "Aquamarine" from the mid- 50's Ford Color Pallette.

OBTW: Bryan from the pics I've seen; your Cougar is pretty much the same color as was my oldest brother's '67 six cyl/four-speed Mustang and his '67 Cougar. (Both of which were bought to be his car; but were each "taken over" by his wife; first the Mustang, then the Cougar - which was the exact same order that they were bought)
I guess that was a somewhat popular color in the Phoenix area 40+ years ago.

check out the color chart here for the marlin blue color, that's the color i'm talking about

what's kinda sad about the color on my cougar is not only am i not very fond of it, my hates it and the previous owner's brother, who owned the car before he did, hates that color too....and he's gay.... so i've definitely got to change the color on that car. my wife calls little old lady aqua :D

Yup, that's the one I was talking about.... Now imagine that color having splashed through the Lower Colorado River and thousands of sand-washes; and only being cleaned with long blasts from a "high-pressure" nozzle on a garden hose, with a bucket of soapy water used maybe once out of every ten times......

Well, considering that my oldest brother will be 66 this November; and his now- ex-wife turned 64 last month....... :p

Seriously, he'd bought the Mustang because she really liked (and "took over") his Wim White '65 Fairlane 500 after her Volkswagon was stepped on - like the Bug it was - by a Caddy at a stoplight. Then she decided she liked the Stang. SIX MONTHS later he traded the Fairlane for the Cougar (like the 1st or 2nd one sold in Phoenix); she decided that she liked the Cougar better -especially the tilt-away, so he ended up getting the Mustang back!

i can see that color oxidizing to a similar color to even my car. i sure am glad my wife doesn't really like older cars all that much, i don't have to worry about her claiming any of mine.

now if i ever get a 68-69 ranchero to drop the engine/trans from my towncar into, she MAY decide she likes it since it will basically have the same technology as her Escape just without the air bags, i don't think that would bother her at all though.
man, i just need to win the lottery or get a really big inheritance or something so i can start building some of these dream projects instead of just dreaming about them.

BNICKEL ....what book did you use for the information on my car? I've looked in all my Mustang history books and on the paint link you gave Dreamin' and it doesn't show up.
Since I do need to order some paint...any advice. Since it was a standard option it should be available I would think.

i'm basing it on a pic i saw in a magazine of one that color. if your car is a blue bonnet special there should be traces of the original paint on the car if it has been repainted, if it's original paint then don't worry about it.

it may not have even been an actual bluebonnet special but some other weird Texas edition. i do remember it was a coupe with a white vinyl top and that color i posted above and it was described as a special texas edition car and i though it was described as being a bluebonnet special, however, i also want to say it was a 68 model not a 67.

Hey Brian; I've been having fun poking around that link you sent me.......

1.) My Dad's '70 F100 4x4 with the Sport/Custom package was two-tone; "Boxwood Green" below the belt-line and on the cap; "Yucatan Gold" in between and also the cab interior metal.

2.) My '72 F100 longbed 4x2 was also two-tone; "Bay Roc(?) Blue Poly" below the belt-line; good ol' "Wimbledon White" in the middle and inside the cab. It was pretty oxidized by the time I got it, and I almost rubbed one spot on the left quarter down to the primer before I decided to give up. Oh, well, the 406 wasn't exactly stock for that year (or for a truck, either!) :D
