I have a 1995 cobra that is stock outside of exhaust and a msd billet dizzy. It also has a Procharger p600b with an intercooler that I have yet to run. I am trying to make up my mind on cylinder heads. Is it possible for me to make 450 rwh running the stock gt40 heads, and the stock cobra cam with the right dyno tune? If not, what would be the easiest way to get there? I would like to push 10 pounds of boost. Should I pull the motor and install a main stud girdle? Should I stud the heads as well?

i dont know about making that much power with 10psi with stock heads have them ported and polished maybe 14 psi boost close to those numbers the studs would just be insurance that your not changing the head gaskets so ya its worth it

I know of a local guy with a lot of bolt ons and 13-15lbs that put down like 415-425 rwhp. Other than a gt40 intake the longblock was stock IIRC...with E7's.

I think it is possible but you will probably need a little more boost to reach that goal.

You might be able to get there with the heads, but I don't know about the cam.

I would say to just replace the cam, but then you might as well do the heads and intake while you were in there.

You could do a H/C/I, then sell the Cobra stuff. Peeps are always looking to get Cobra parts.

If I was to do the H/C/I swap. How much could I possibly get for selling the cobra heads intake, injectors, cam and rockers from my engine? Im just trying to figure out if I should do this right the first time or run with the blower until something gives. But If i do that and say something goes boom then I might not be able to sell this stuff. It is all a toss up. Also, Do i have to use a fmu and timing retard box if I get a custom dyno tune?
Thanks for all your help guys.

I would say 500-600 for the heads, depending on condition.
Maybe 300 or so for Intake.
75-100 for cam, 200-250 for whole valvetrain.
50-75 for Injectors.
Nobody jump my stuff here, as I am not claiming to be an expert on pricing. Just trying to help out.

Why not do it right the first time?
I don't believe in buying/rebuilding parts twice.

Thank You for all your help. I think that I will sell my heads, cam and injectors. Pull the motor and get a forged bottom end. Then I will pick up a set of better heads like AFRs or victor jr.s Top this off with the common goods and call it a day. It will take me way longer but I see the benefit. I don't want to sell my cobra intake because I feel like I should keep it with the car. I went through the same problem on my lt1. The build turned out to be very expensive but well worth it.:nice:

Look @ my Sig. It should tell you a few things. The 427 is with only 8lbs of boost. A VERY safe tune as well.
hope this helps.

I'll tell you exactly how much I got for my stock stuff:
Heads I got $325 The rockers I sold to the same guy as well as the pushrods and lifters for another $100, I had an E cam so I got $125 for it, my timing chain and gears I got $25, the intake was $250 (ported). I sold it pretty cheap because I just wanted to get rid of it quick.

Damn, I wish I could find somebody selling at that price now!

There is no real need to tear the motor apart unless your going to use a aftermarket block. The stock block is the real weakpoint and will split most times before the rest of the engine gives up.

With 10lbs of boost the stock h/c/i should be in the 370-400 range. There is one person on this site running a stock longblock with unported gt40 heads with a custom cam making 500+rwhp in a 94 cobra

If you're gonna get a whole new bottom end, time to look at stroker kits.

I think if you did a 5 angle valve job on the heads, ported the upper and lower, ran a methanol injection kit, bought 42# injectors, a new MAF, a new fuel pump, and got a quality tune, you could reach your goal for less bucks. You don't need to go forged for that kind of horse power as the block typically will break before the stock bottom end.

Just an idea.

Look up GMKILLR here. He's making over 500rwhp with stock GT40iron heads (with upgraded valve springs). He doesn't have power steering and is running a decent amount of boost, but I think your goal is obtainable with what you have now as long as you add all of the other supporting hardware.

I would install some AFR's to get maximum power. The GT40's are good, but you are gonna need the best to get 450RWHP.

I had a HCI 95 GT with a P600B and a 3 core intercooler with the 3" piping. The car only had 3.08 gears and it was a vert so I ran a 13.31#113.5MPH. The MPH tells me I was pushing 380-400RWHP. This was all with ABOUT 11.5-12LBS boost.
