Does anyone know a good speed shop to have gears installed in a 2001 mustang GT in the chicago land area. I called one place and they said it was going to be about $850 for the gears and the install which I thought was nuts.

Thanks.

they are a sponsor for our local club and lots of people are happy with their work. i know their site features mostly gm stuff but they are great with ford stuff too.

$850 is a rip...keep calliing around...should be about $375 - $500 + tax for a gear and bearings install.

if no luck, I gotta a guy here 35 miles South of Nashville that will do it for you for $450

I paid $300 for an install. I supplied the gears, bearings, and lube but the whole rear end was rebuilt including the trac-lok. Only thing not changed was the axle shafts or differential carrier itself.

Cost me $350 labor for my '93.I've had a few done by Wally and he does excellent work.Little slow, but it will be done right.Got my FMS 4:10 for $140 shipped on ebay.

When I was asking for quotes the five shops I called were all pretty close in price (for labor only). ~$480-$600 (top price was a Ford dealer) was the range.

Best bet is to find someone to do it as a side job. Most of the installs aren't that hard - so I've been told.

I had a bearing fail, and needed to have a entire rear end rebuilt... I called a family friend, who is a car dealer at one of the local ford dealerships. I asked him if he could get me in contact with a mechanic to do it on the side and I only paid $300.00... I supplied the trac lok rebuild kit, bearings, gears, and lube... I think the dealership wanted $850 or something...

where in the chicagoland area you located?

and the more i think of it why is is called Chicagoland area? i have lived here for 20 years and i cant think of a single other city that puts "land" after the name to describe areas surrounding a major city.

lol finiush line performance is one of the better ones. Did they quote you for a new differential, rebuild, or just a gear install?

If you buy genuine ford gears (ford racing), they are prelisted for the amount of pinion depth, usually spot on, and all you really mess with is backlash. I live in Rockford and the last gear job I did was $250 labor (8 hr job normally). If you care to make a drive and have your own parts, I can set you up. PM if interested
