Here is the newest info I have found out.

The outside diameter of the valve seal is 5/8

The inside spring diameter of the springs that were on the heads are 7/8

The inside spring diameter of the springs I got in the kit are 3/4

I e-mailed Ed and asked if he can just send out a new kit since so much stuff needs to be replaced and I can send him this kit back.

Ed didnt send me the wrong kit, he sent me the correct kit for what he thought the valve stems were. He was told 8MM when I was talking to him through e-mail regarding the build b/c thats what the AFR site says for what is used but I am aware that its for the most current heads they have cast and I did not know that older heads would have different hardware on them.

I know its more of PITA to run the newer setup, but its worth it IMO. You can't imagine how much weight you will drop in your valvetrain with the new setup and less weight in the valvetrain is ALWAYS a good thing.

Are you referring to a valve spring kit from ED VS what was on the heads before?

I just got and sent back an E-mail to ED. Im getting the new locks today and he is sending me out a new kit w/ the proper sizes so everything will fit. Im sending him back the valve spring kit I initially got. Overall things only got delayed by a few days, it should all be cake from here on out once the new valve spring kit is here

*knocks on wood*

I'm refering to switching from the standard AFR style components (1.43+ diameter springs and their larger and heavier supporting hardware like locks, retainers, etc) that your heads had to the newer LS1 style components similar to what they are using now (1.29" diameter springs and smaller supporting components like retainers, etc). I'm sure Ed can set this up to work for you with his spring package but using the lighter LS1 style springs and supporting hardware. It is a more involved swap to adopt the older heads to accept the newer LS1 style valvetrain components though.

Ed is at the top of his game and your in great hands, I can't say enough great things about the guy. Put your trust in him and he won't lead you wrong!

I have no problems w/ Ed at all, he deff knows his stuff and hes been very easy to work with through this situation. Stopped by the shop today to pick up the valve spring kit he sent me so I can send it back to him, snapped off a few pics while I was there. Its getting there, new fuel filter is in, tranny fluid, 2 core aluminum radiator. Just waiting for the springs to get put on so that it can all be buttoned up again.

Isn't that a beautiful car?

Hey, if you're selling that intake and MAF, know the following:

The intake was extrude honed and the lower is for a 351, which makes a difference of course.

The MAF was a prototype off of a preproduction lightning....may want to hang onto that :)

Are we placing bets on dyno numbers? I'll start...

370rwhp and 400rwtq :nice:

Not yet, I have to go in tomorrow to drop the locks off for the valve springs so I'll set the passenger side one on and see how it fits since that one seems like the problem one. It has a different bracket set up then a 302 so I'll either make out good or be F'ed in the A

Valve covers should fit, I test fitted them today, didn't appear as though there would be any clearance issues which will be sweet b/c those VC will look killer on this set up.

The proper spring kit and hardware is on its way, it will be at the shop on Monday. I dropped off the correct locks for the kit today. All said and done the car should be done next week.

Plan on making a trip to Epping on Friday Night or Saturday morning depending on which day is better weather wise.

Anyone else coming along?

The bracket on mine is different then the 302 set up. I did not bolt it on but I pushed it up against the bracket as far as it would go and lined up the bolt holes on the heads and valve covers and there was a few centimeters of clearance, its going to be close but from what I can tell it should fit.

Haha wanker, thats a funny word :D

I just got lucky when I found this car. Right place right time. Jimmy thought he had it sold right when I contacted him about the car but the guys wife stuffed his balls in a glass jar so he backed out. I had only been looking for less then a week. Wanted a Cobra this time, had to be Rio Red b/c Rio Red has 10 more HP then the other colors and I wanted black leather interior. Everything else about the car was just a bonus :nice:

UPDATE:

Problem #1

Just wanted to get everyone up to speed on everything. The PS3 Valve spring kit that ED resent me fit fine, should no issues there.

Problem #2

Stock 302 fuel rails will not fit on a Trick Flow R intake for the 351W. The stock rails are being modified now as to be able to fit on the lower intake VS buying an Aeromotive or Trick Flow fuel rail kit. Its something I do want to do but just not right now, dont have the funds to dump in $500+ for a new fuel rail kit right now.

Unknowns-

Valve covers, I test fitted them, the friend doing the install on my parts test fitted them, appears they will fit but until they are on the car and bolted down I wont be 100% sure.

The car is a few hrs away from being put back together. Just need to get the fuel rails to work and then its just a matter of hooking everything back up and putting the upper intake on. I wont make it to the track this friday or saturday as I wanted to so Im going to try for next weds night b/c hopefully with out anymore hang ups it should be all set by then.
