removing air pump and diverter valves on 96 cobra

Removing the air pump on the side of the car will set a CHECK ENGINE light. I don't know if you have a typo about the "diverter valves " but I can't make that out. Do you mean the IMRC plates? Those will set a light too.

my mechanic friend called them diverter valves....the valves between the air pump and exhaust manifolds... im installing longtubes and a k member kit at the moment and just looking for ways to lighten the car as much as possible

I think he means the IMRC plates. I would leave them on. Removing them will kill the torque on your car. They don't weight much either, so don't worry about the weight of those. Cutting weight is stupid IMO because you are taking off luxury of the Cobra. One time I removed my sway bar, passenger seat, back seat, console, glove box, trunk stuff, spoiler, wipers...etc.....

I ran NO better. MPH, E/T, 60ft...nothing got better. It just wasted 2 hours of my life. You would have to cut 500-1000lbs to notice a difference. Even with a passenger in my car, my car didn't slow down at the track...and his weight at the time was about 200lbs.

the IMRC plates are in the intake system. he is talking about the diverter valves in the air injection system (smog pump).

you will get a check engine light but a good tuner can program out the light. there should not be any drivability issues.

You wanna cut weight out of the front end....save up for a tubular K-Member and relocate your battery to the truck. Don't start hacking up the polution control on a street car....it's just not worth the hassle and the lost fuel mileage. Especially with todays gas prices. :nonono:

i am installing a tubular k member,a arms, and coilover kit...along with long tubes. i just figured and weight i can get off the nose of the car is better. im not removing any of the interior or any luxury of the cobra im just after better handling and ETs

Just remove them and get a tune to turn off the CEL. I removed mine long ago along with the EGR crap and there was NO difference in fuel mileage. I tuned my car to compensate for the removed parts, so there is no loss in MPG at all. In the end, who bought a Cobra, or a Mustang for that matter because of fuel mileage?? I wouldn't care if my car got 10mpg, it's a Mustang, not a Prius.

dont removed ur air injection, its for ur cats in ur exhaust, it helps give the cat a better burn, if u remove it , u will set a code and ur car will run like ****,

and as far as the person that said removing weight from ur car doesnt do anything
its 100pounds to 1 tenth in the 1/4 mile
take off 200 pounds, u drop 2 tenths

i removed the air injection system and bought an xcal 3....the car runs awesome
and the xcal did away with the code....i have the kmember,a arms, coilovers, and cc plates installed now...i couldnt be happier
