A local dyno shop had a small car show and $30 for the dyno. Dad decided to haul the car down and have it run, just for fun. Everything was great, but...

For some reason one of the employees had issues with the car. He must have thought it was an auto because within a few seconds of getting it it, no clutch, he jammed the shifter stright into 3rd. With a synchroed tranny this would just grind, but with the Jericho it slammed into gear, lurched and stalled. Got it back on, he backed it on (Mustang dyno) and got it strapped down. Everytime the guy let off the clutch tho the car was VIOLENTLY hopping, to the point he had to clutch in and rev it higher to get it running through the RPM smooth. Not sure what the issue was, other than figuring with the big cam he was just too low in the RPM. They finally got it going alright and ran it...

469 rwhp
439 rwtq

Nothing insane but decent numbers for a Mustang dyno. A cool day on a dynojet, maybe 485/450 or so, but he cares very little about dyno numbers. Just decided for $30 he couldn't pass it up.

Also to note as we were about to leave an 03 or 04 Cobra was waiting to hit the dyno. The employee hopped in, and proceeded to, you guessed it, stall the car. Kind of amusing, even though it's no big deal, but I would hate to see my car getting stalled and such.

Our old dyno guy let us do it, this place wouldn't. I assume insurance reasons.

My dads car hasn't been 9s yet. Went 10.13. Next time out in 3000' elevation went 10.22 first pass but with more mph. Then broke the rear. He swapped 4.30s and a 28" tire for 4.10s and a 27" tire and the car refuses to 60'. Went 10.3s the other day at 3000' elevation and crappy 60's.

whats the difference between a mustang dyno and a dynojet? there is a guy here that has the dynojet and dynos nascar stuff. put mine on there but im too ashamed of the numbers to say.

Yeah I just figured for a shop selling an 8 second drag car, they would know what a Vertigate shifter is, especially with 3 pedals in there and the fact you can tell its a stick car when my dads driving it.

No worries, noone got hurt and nothing broken, just makes me wonder. Car was on a downhill and if he hit it in first theres a chance it jumped and started moving.

Nice numbers...what are the details of the car again?

It's a stock block 393 stroker with nitrous pistons (maybe 12-12.5:1 comp), AFR 185s with upgraded springs, 690 lift solid roller, Ford Racing Intake, Custom carb, Long tubes, race bullets.

The car is a 1991 LX with about 85K miles, wild Strawberry over grey interior, tubular K and A arms, coil overs out front, all the suspension, Jericho, built rear with 4.10s.

Car ran 10.13 @ 131 running out of gear on 27" tires and 4.30s. Put on 28" tires and ran 10.22 @ 135 on its first pass then blew the ring and pinion up. Then put 4.10s and the 27"s in and it went a few 10.3xs @ 133, but the car wont 60' now. Hopefully he goes back to a steeper gear, or gets it figured out and then puts the 28"s on and sprays it :D.

Very nice...good numbers from such a basic set up. Good luck with it! I need to do some work to mine and get it back to the track, id like some numbers like those lol.
