Alright, I've got the C4 still in the Cobra but im trying to find a nice ratchet shifter that will bolt up with little to no modifications. Right now I've been looking at the B&M Hammer and Megashifter along with the Hurst V-Matic 2. They look pretty decent but seem to be a little too big to fit into the console. Anyone already been down this path that could help me out?

Can't think of any shifter that will fit the hole in the console. Pretty small opening. Keep in mind that these aftermarket shifters, like the B& M and Hurst units, may require you to change out the shifter in the tranny aswell. B& M is usually good for that one.

MustangToo - Thanks, I'll have to check that one out. Is that a ratchet?
Vegas Stang - I'm looking for a street application that has a nice sporty look. The only dragging I would really be doing is at the local track just seeing what I can do for times.

The hurst Quarter stick is a racy shifter. Cool looks. It can be used with or without the cover. Not a ratchet shifter but a positive point shifter. But , if using it on the street you can stick it in D and forget it. I had one in my Pro Streeter and had a MANUAL valve body kit in it so I HAD to shift. First to second is a slap and 2nd to 3rd, you just squeeze the handle ( or vice/versa) but it eliminates the third to neutral slip as with some other shifters.:nice:

Hmm, sounds like it would fit my application well. Don't know why I never looked into it before when I looked at Hursts. Thanks for the help, I'm definitely going to check it out.

i found this surfing today.we are putting a c4 in our 74 mach 1 and was wondering how one of these would works ?? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LOKA...temQQhashZitem280244410639QQitemZ280244410639 thanks greg:D

Yes, the one listed on Ebay is too long for a II and is for an AOD. The floor-mount version for a C4 with a 6" long handle would be a good choice:

FMS60C4F Floor Mount Automatic Trans Shifter C-4 6"
Lokar: Floor Mount Automatic Transmission Shifters

I have the B&M Star Shifter in mine, I would recomend the Mega shifter or the Quick silver though. (The Star does not ratchet down through the gears only up). No fun for when your playing Mario Andretti. Almost all the B&M shifters come with the cable bracket and shift lever for a C4. (the quick silver and the mega do for sure). [looking at their catalog]. You are going to have to loose the console and likely need a e-brake handel from a 1974 (they are much shorter) Other then that you need to drill two 3/8" mounting holes in the floor and one huge 3/4"? hole for the shift cable.:D

I have no problem shifting with the stock shifter it's detents are positive and it has the reverse lock out, just add a small Hurst boot and you can still retain the the center console. Just slide the rubber boot over your shifter pod and replace the console can't beat the look for $10.00.
