Wastegate on supercharger?

Anyone think this is a good idea?

Pully the blower for like 15-17 psi and have a wastegate to release extra boost over 10 psi.

that way I would make more boost and power under the curve

I dont think my IATS would be a problems since theyre pretty much 10-15 degrees higher than ambient with my intercooler.

I have this set up on my 4.6 truck with a Novi 2k and it is working very well.
It pretty much has to be in a blow through maf configuration. I am using a Turbonetics Evolution WG which is dialed in at 8.5 psi while the blower is making around 13 psi. The power curve is more like a turbo than a Centri and I see 5 psi at 2K rpms, which is plenty to deal with on a street truck. The mid range boost is phenomenal.

I believe they had a articial about this in Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords. They did say the the power band was alot like a turbo. They said it was alot easier to dial up the boost when changing between pump gas and race gas. No pulley swap! It is a great idea!

I am blow through and im intercooled so I dont think any of the extra heat with really create much of a problem.
Im really looking for more of a turbo like powerband and of course a faster car overall.

I would imagine that it would make my car a good bit faster.

My car is making about 5 psi at 4k, but from there its a slow creep to 10 psi at 6k.

I would love to make 10 psi at like 4-4500

The only thing I would be worried about is the heat, it's going to have cool iat
s but overall the blower and everything is going to be spinning much more and have a lot more stress and heat.

thats another thing...I want to calculate what it will be spinning.

Im intercooled and my iats are like 10 degres above ambient so I think ill be fine

Not sure what the advantage would be here? The top end of the 4.6L's are tough as it is, so blowing out a head gasket shouldn't be a problem....in which case why not just have your tuner pull a bunch out of the timing curve to offset the added cylinder pressure?

More boost down low, faster spool, more linear power curve.

Yeah...I got that, but why try to bleed off any of the boost at all. Just pull some timing out of the tune and richen up the A/F ratio a little more to keep things together under load?

Keep all of that bottom end torque that comes with the quicker spool and your engine together in one fail swoop without changing a thing? :nice:

Lol...cause as far as I know, pulling timing and richening it up isnt gonna make running 17 PSI on a stock block safe.

The advantage is the fact that currently my setup is about like this:

3k 1 psi
4k 5 psi
5k 7 psi
6k 10 psi

If I put a pulley on the car designed to make like 15 psi at 6k it would probably be more like this

2500 1 psi
3k 4 psi
4k 8 psi
4500 10 psi full boost to 6k

Just a guess....I dont really know but the point is I should be making a solid 3-4 PSI more throughout the powerband which could be worth an extra 30-40 hp throughout the powerband.
