Mark VIII Motor

Over the winter I really want to work on something, either the engine in my GT or build up something else. I have just purchased a Lincoln Mark VIII (93 or 94 I think, got it for really cheap), the car is trash but the engine runs and is in great shape, I think it has around 113k miles on it. Anyway, my plan is to take the engine out of the car, take it apart, rebuild it with forged internals, and throw it in my GT. I know that's easier said than done, but I have the tools and the time to do it. Does this seem worth it to do? I want a big HP machine down the road, and this just seems like the way to do it. Also, don't the Mark VIII engines have the teskid block? What else would I need to do to make this engine work in my car? I'm assuming intake manifold and reflash the computer, or possibly reuse the Mark VIII computer? Rewire? Sensors? Exhaust manifolds? Any and all information is possible, I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty and I think this could be a worthwhile project. Thanks in advance for any opinions / advice.

I've been doing a bit of research and the swap doesn't look that hard, especially considering I already have an automatic. The only things I'm really concerned about are the sensors and the wiring of everything.

The stock k member will work, same block size. Yes it is the Teksid block just without the 8 bolt forged crank. You can even use your stock puter with a refash or tune. You would just have to delete the IMRC, kinda useless anyway
I know its for low end torque improvement so put away the flame throwers :nonono:
The Cobra plenum is also good for 10 hp on the car but the stock Mark plenum is just fine.
Good luck and keep us posted

my concern was the wiring but i figured it would be basiclly the same,my thoughts were to get a mark viii motor and build a terminator lower end and a set of cams,
then bolt on a hp twin turbo system,i eventually want to make 700-900 rwhp

Well everything you wana do is feasable and not that hard to do. Really any 96+ Cobra crank or Mach1 with a 5-speed crank will work. 96 Cobra cams would be your best bang for the buck too. IDK why but something in the grind allows thoes cams to make beter power then any other of the Cobra cams

900rwhp is a nice thing to brag about and is doable with the combo you seek but that much is WAY too much for a street car, even a toy. Ask the guys around here running 650+, its just too much. No traction, EVER! I have 450 rwhp and its pretty tense sometimes in a corner and she breaks the tail loose :rlaugh:
I have a friend with a TT Terminator, 03 Sonic Blue (like me :D) that had 960 rwhp and dialed it back to a mere 760 and still needs four people in the car to come any where near traction. He buys new rear tires every month and a half, no :bs: and they are Drag Radials. His car will light the tires at 120 and chirp like a bird if floored at 150 mph :jaw:

What I think I've decided to do is keep my GT the same for right now and bolt on a blower for around 300-400 rwhp, and work on the built Mark VIII engine on the side, take my time and make it the way I want it, and then put that in the car for some really big power. So what I will need is cams and a crankshaft from a 96-98' cobra, forged pistons... what else? I might as well get the heads ported and polished while I'm at it. I won't say money is not an issue, but this is over a couple years and I want to do it correctly, with most of the work done myself. What else would I need?

Will the stock cams from a Ford GT work in these heads? Are the stock heads in the Mark VIII the "b" heads?
Yes on both but the GTs cams are better for "C" heads and may require some snout mod for the "B" heads
Do a little research online (mine was from 3-4 articles in different Mustang mags over the years) and you will see that the guys making big power on the trak are using 96 Cobra cams. Now im sure an aftermarket company might make better ones but on a budget you will save alot with the Cobras

1996 Mustang Cobra - 600HP Supercharged SN-95 - 5.0 Mustang & Super Fords Magazine Pretty cool stuff. Here's what my plan is as of right now, any and all help appreciated:

Stock Mark VIII Block
Ported / Polished Mark VIII Heads
Livernois Motorsports 4-Valve Roots/Turbo 18cc - 8.8:1 Compression Stroker Rotating Assembly
96-98 Cobra Intake Manifold
96-98 Cobra Cams
Long Tube Headers?

Anything else I would need, odd bits / pieces (excluding the necessary nuts and bolts)? It goes without saying that I will be adding a major power adder, maybe a large KB or turbo later on, so that's why the compression ratio is so low.

You sound like you are an intelligent dude :nice:
If you are planning on a Turbo id skip the headers as long tubes for 4Vs are 700+ and would be tossed for the turbo.... unless you are thinking custom STS

With the turbo I would obviously have to redo the whole front suspension and it would probably just be a huge pain in the butt, that's why I was debating the headers or not depending on turbos, but I'm probably going to go the supercharger route. Headers only benefit the 4v's from 700+ hp wise? I'm no expert on 4vs, actually I know next to nothing about them, so that's good to know, I just figured I would do them while the engine was out of the car. Know of any good engine stands btw? It's going to be on there awhile haha

Shucks, I'm reading they only make a 2.1L KB for the 96-98 Cobra, PLUS it's hard to intercool? Definitely a buzz kill, but hopefully if the engine is breathing correctly I can run a smaller pulley and get the same amount of boost.

When I S/C I am doing the 96-98 KB Twin screw. I was dead set on it befor I sold my other Cobra. After driving my Terminater I can tell you a positive displacment S/C is so much fun on the street. It makes the engine pull like a big block at low rpm and charge hard on the top end and the sound is
IATs are a concern but with a meathonal injection kit you could set it for only when its needed and a 5 gallon tank would last a long time and its cheep. Not to mention the 70+ rwhp you will see in a S/C application. IThats what I am gonna do for my Mark VIII when I do the KB. I am also planning on adding it to the termi. When you see the big hp improvements with just super cooling...... find Saleen2001GTs thread...... help me out guys was it him that just hit 751 in his 2v?

just wondering is there any paticular year of mark viii motor i want?
i wont need the rotating assembly, and also what are tumble port heads and will the
sullivan intake for tumble port heads work?sorry for the dumb questoins, looking to start my project soon
thanks
