DIS Problem, Tach at 1/2, codes 223,224

Hi all.

From my searches it seems I might have an ICM problem but I'm not 100% sure.

The tach is at 1/2 mast (once in awhile returns to normal).
Pulled KOEO and continuous codes 223 and 224.
Engine seems to miss a bit at times.

I had the batt disconnected and after that the tach was fine for about a week and check engine light was out but the problem came back.

I have manuals and such but they have very little on the DIS system. Any suggestions on simple diagnostics before I replace the wrong parts?

Thx.

testing is almost worthless as the ICM wont fail until it heats up. make sure all the connections are tight, if everything checks out and you still have a problem then I would get a new ICM.

I had a code 223 and 224,, Changed module, ran better, check engine light came back on, had a bad coil pack. 3 yrs later, got a code 223, bad coil pack. So I am assuming that a 223 means more coil pack problems and a code 224 more icm. But the tach bouncing 1/2 way is a defiinite ICM characteristic. The best part about both is they are very simple to replace, just don't forget to put the dielectric grease on back of the icm where it mounts and never hurts to use some silicone grease on the plug wires.

I thought I'd run it a few days to make sure.

I took the old ICM off, cleaned and reinstalled it with no effect so I put the new one in.

The tach is back up and it runs smoother again and idiot light is off. Must have been the ICM.

I cleared the computor as well so I can check which (if any) codes return.

thx again,
