Statement about new Camaro

Let's keep this civilized and on topic.

Don't resort to immature behavior such as name calling. That just makes you look bad if you can't get a solid point across without begiling the person you are trying to tell it to.

With that said. It's amazing how many people judge how "great" a car is simply by how fast it goes. You could make a refrigerator run 10's if you wanted....i still wouldn't drive it. I'd take a "slow" terminator over a 600HP LS1 Cam-bird anyday...simply because I just don't like the cars. WHat other reason do I need? Hell, i drive a 260HP GT around that could get beat by quite a few modern 4-door sedans on the market today. Should I jump off a bridge? Should i burn the car?

It reminds me of the one time i happened to run a quick stoplight with "Bob" who happened to be driving a ____________. He beat me barely and then had the nerve to say my car was a POS and I should sell it. Then as the light goes green, he proceeded to drive off and the car back-fired a few times, and then spewed the tell-tale sign of burning oil out the tailpipes as i noticed half the panels on the car were rotted through, no working A/C (it was 95 degrees out) and a noticably hacked up dash with gauges and exposed wiring. Now, in his twisted mind, his car was "better" than my 5000 mile GT just because it was faster. My point of all this is speed isn't everything. I enjoy driving my "slower" Mustang around than i would in a faster LS1.

But don't think i don't like a GM product. I was seriously considering buying a Pontiac G8 with the LS6 for a while :) I still wouldn't drive a Camaro though. :)

Wow... I didn't read this whole thread but got the gist from the first page.

Personally, I coudn't care less what stock automobile can beat what other stock automobile fresh off the show-room floor with Racer-X behind the wheel.

Rather... I like pulling up next to that shiny new Challenger at the stop light and walking him for a mile or so before exchanging thumbs up and continuing on my way...

--or--

Getting walked myself by some late model Z06, exchanging thumbs up and continuing on my way (pleased with the look on his that tells me that he's shocked that I stayed within a car or two).

What makes it all even better... My old 4 eye with it's quiet Bassani exhaust and from his percpective, "Who knows what", under the hood.

Occationally, just occationally, we might pull over and talk who's done what to which car.

As far as the new Challenger goes... sex on wheels. If I didn't have to get rid of my Fox to have one, I'd have one. I bet it has a cup holder!!!! :D

It's different today.Buy a TA or Z-28, or GTO, G8, what ever, it's all chevy motors.
Up till 1981 if you bought a Pontiac it had a Pontiac motor, Chevy had a Chevy motor and Old's and Buick had Old's and Buick motors.

389,400,421,428 & 455's were pontiacs warriors.
400 & 455 were Oldsmobile. Old's had other motors but these were the fast ones.
The Buick 455 Stage 1
Ford had the 351,390,427,428,429, & 460 to play with.(I know they had others)
And there are way to many Chevy & Mopars to list.

Frankly, I like the new GTO's, and will probably own one if I don't get a Mustang or Camaro. I was ALWAYS a GM guy, but things are WAY different today.

I still miss my camaro. I just found it more comfortable than the new edge gt's that were out at the time. my wife has an 02 gt and I still dont like driving it that much. I think my fox is much more comfortable, but that is just me. my wife hated riding in the camaro and hates my fox even more:shrug: good thing it's not her car

Best race I ever had was me vs a new Lambo on the highway... Both left after the two runs with a thumbs up, and I got me a little some because of it. (The GF didnt want me to race but loved the adrenaline rush after :D)

Hahaha, just the opposite for me. I can get "some" whenever, but she hates it whenever I get into the throttle. She always just says the same thing, "I didn't like that."

I know that doesn't contribute to the camaro thread, but I had to respond. :D

To continue on that, I once did chase a Lambo through some back country roads, but he wasn't very playful. :nonono:

the IRS is the exact reason I wont own one. that and they ARE ugly too.

I liked the way it looked in transformers, but the actual production model looks almost nothing lke the concept car

I got an IRS and it seems fine  Actually both my modular Fords are IRS :nice:

Wheres the donuts? I want a powdered one :nice:

I'm not saying that didn't happen other times, just was one of those she got a huge rush, and before we got in the door... well yeah!

None of thios contributes, but then again the contributions have been weak so far.

The Lambo was fun from 60 to 110-120 but anything more and my car looked stupid. Nice to see a car run from you when your in it at 120 like your not moving.

Haha, yea, I bet. A Fox without any dramatic aerodynamic changes is pretty much like a shoebox in a tornado at that speed.

So, I was doing some thinking today, and I think I have something to contribute to re-light the fire here...

Back in 1955, Chevy came out with the small block V-8, which was supposed to be a "better" engine than the Ford Flathead. 53 years later, people are still building competitive Flatheads that run with Chevys. I don't know if its Ford people or Ford marketing, or their product has always just been sweet, but I think regardless of how badass the LSx motors are, Mustang>Camaro, and that is why most of us are here! :flag:

NOT!!

Dude, the flat head is purely nostalgic! The flathead is a piece of crap compared to an overhead valve motor! And BTW, Ford builds an over head valve motor too!

What I was really trying to say is that its not important how fast a car is from the factory, what is important is how passionate people are about it. If people have that passion, anything can be made to be fast. The Mustang has proven to inspire that passion, and that is why it has been a top selling car since 1964.

For what its worth... This bad boy makes 700hp.

Ford should just put in a 4 valve 5.4 engine in the GTs and then a turbo w/the 5.4 or more cubes in the higher end stangs if they want to be king.

Well Put

I wondered a few years ago why the Mustang only had two models, V8 and V6...and then they came out with the over-priced bigger V8. What they need is to first of all lighten up the car, and then put some bigger faster engines in the Mustang, but not have them be special models. Just an engine upgrade for a few $K. NOT 20-30K. I didn't know if they were waiting for the Challenger and Camaro to come out to step it up or what, but I guess we'll see. I also think Ford (who obviously builds ALL of their engines to work with a power adder) needs to up the compression a little. Maybe not 11-11.5:1 like Chevrolet, but maybe a 10.5 or something.

Just my thinking.
