I am new to a mustang and was wondering what gears are stock in a 95' GT.

I would like to upgrade the gears but do alot of highway driving so that is a concern for me. Was considering 3.55's or 3.73's, but I am not sure which would be the better choice.

Any help is appreciated....

That question is hotly debated when it cones up, it really depends on what you really want. That being said, I recommend 3.73's as well. Some like 4.10's if they have an auto tranny, but I have an auto and 3.73's have good pep to them as well.

Be aware that your speedometer will be off after you install gears. You can get you speedometer close if you change a gear on the Vehicle Speed Sensor, but you can't get it exactly right.

3.73 unless you are planning adding A LOT of power. I chose 3.55 bc it gives me traction off the line. Honestly I'd go 4.10 stock now. Stock there's a lot of TQ but just not enough power.

If you're worried about highway, I probably wouldn't go with 4.10s. It might be too much, I know my rpms around 70-80 is around 2500 and depdning on your exhaust, drone can be a PITA!

I think 373s would be a little better for you

Yeah, I have 4.10s in my auto. Just drove 4 hours today, going about 75-80 the whole way. I got used to the drone. But I feel sorry for people when I give them rides.

3.73's if you drive a lot on the highway.
4.10's if you drive your car on the city.

If you think to ever go F/I youll be better off just getting 3.73's.

So,Yeah 3.73's.

Ive had 3.55's and I have 3.73's now both with 5spd's, Id also go w/ 3.73's if I were you. You pretty much don't want 4.10's from what you have said and if you get 3.55's before to long you will wish you got 3.73's

I crawled underneath the car and read the tag -- 2.73's. No wonder it revs next to nothing!

I spoke with another gentlman that says that 3.73 will be to deep of a gear and he said to go with 3.55's. Now I'm really confused. However, by popular believe, 3.73's do seem to be the gear of choice.

According to the handy gear ratio calculator, 3.73 @ 70 MPH = 2323 RPM. 3.55's @ 70 = 2211 RPM. Really not that much difference? About 100 RPM.....

Still unsure of what to do..
