if he's not happy with it, you need to reverse the roles in your relationship. have a sit down conversation with him. kinda like this. look dad i put alot of time and effort to do this and to have it look great as a gift to you for all the help you have given me. i am sadly dissapointed that you are not appreciating what i have done. NO GO TO YOUR ROOM, NO DINNER FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!

haha

Dude you got some serious talent right there!! I guess you had all the tools to like cut the bricks and stuff?? Bad ass man!!!! :nice:

i did...i ended up borrowing the wet saw from my dads boss. dusty ass mess cutting brick lol.

It's amazing how many different designs your can make while laying bricks. Our downtown areas have so many designs.

yeah. i played around with it for like a hour till i decided i liked that one. all the others were just to fancy for what this is. his flight got pushed back. so he will be come in about an hour.

I'm impressed...

I gotta say though Ryan, as a teenager don't you have like a million other things to do for fun?

yeah, but every now and then i get sick of my friends bowl **** lol. the woman is stressful sometimes. and its nice to just put my phone somewhere else and work. ha. plus i enjoy doing things like that. its what i do as my job. a lot of remodeling and such like that. landscaping ect.

That looks great and should be a good selling point IF you ever moved. Great work again Ryan. I think once I started a certain design, I would fudge it somewhere and have to redo it all...haha

WELL the plan is to do the whole driveway..but fock that. i would still be laying brick...and he loved it. so good for me...im back on the a list :D

and yeah..there were few time i steped back and was like ****. but it was a quick fix.

im guwssung from the pics your laying it on sand? if so when you do the joints make sure you use a sand mix that tries to prevent the weeds from growing inbetween the brick, w/ sand as a base they are bound to grow.

that was a gravel area that we parked the cars on. years back we dug out all the grass, yeah. gravel base. then sand though.

Damn Ryan, thats some good work, I am fixing to do a small 6X10 ft square at my house, I know you used sand in between but have you ever seen someone use a concrete mix for in between the brick? I was talking to a friend of mine and he layed the brick on the leveled sand but when it came time to pour the sand over the whole thing to finish it up and sweep off the extra sand, he said he used a concrete mix or something and packed it in just like the sand and after he swept the extra concrete mix off he just sprayed it with a water hose? Would this work?

ive never heard of anyone doing this. if you wanted you could but doing it this way works just fine. gravel then compact it down solid then 1 inch sane base lay your brick then sand ALL over the top. i sweeped it all over it then took the big ass compacter i used to compact the gravel and ran that over it to settle it all down. and them bricks are not going anywhere now. there in there solid. for doing that size of a space id still spend the 40 or so buck and rent the compacter from sunbelt.

EDIT:

also doing it that way over time like that the concrete will start to break apart and cause problems.
