my sept 86 stang has a1987 spark plug wire ,she only has 6000 miles never had a tune up or ever been worked on outside oil change that was done here. Now could this have a 87motor since it is a late 09/86. someone out there must know ? Ps This car sat still since 1991 till last sept07

It only has 6000 miles on it? Holy Christ! We need pictures!

As for the engine, I can't say, I've googled it and came up with nothing, and I know none of my books say anything about mid-year changes in the motor. If it has 4 eyes, it likely has the E6 heads. Stick you head under the hood and look for identification on the cylinder heads. If its an '86 engine, it should have a sticker or a tag on the side of the cylinder head that says "E6SE" somewhere on it.

Keep me informed, now I'm curious.

So I went and stuck my head under the hood and on the passenger side valve cover, I have a sticker that reads "E6SE" and some other numbers. Now my best book claims the heads are E6AE for the 1986 model, so I don't know if the sticker really is denoting the heads or the valve covers or what.

Looking at those pictures you sent me, I see that the intake has the correct '86 plaque. Other than that, I can't identify anything different ('86 VS '87) on the motor. The upper intake casting is a slightly different shape and color '86 to '87, but it is hard to see the difference without them side-by-side. I'm hoping someone steps into this thread that might give you better information than me!

I would realy like to find out for the truth so I can put this to rest . For the car as long as I have it there will be no mods or changes of any sort. The car has never had the wind sheld wipers put on or pass window put down till I got it .

could they have run out of e6's an threw e7's on to finish the model run?

Nope. That would be like throwing a 300HP 3V 4.6L into the last of the 2004 GT's just cuz they ran out of 2V's.

Ford wouldn't do that and potentially hurt sales of their new face-lift model.

Would you buy a brand new Z06 if the leftover models got the same goodies right before the debut?

All 1986 motors are the same. They all received the crappy E6 heads. Only the 87+ aero cars got the E7's. For ford to slap E7's on an '86 motor would require notching the pistons as well as a new computer and tune. It's simply not worth it for ford to invest the money into an insignificant mid-year change like that with a new model about to debut.

Having 1987 wires doesn't mean anything in terms of what year the motor is. All it means is someone took the car for a tuneup sometime around 1987-1988 at a local ford dealer and had them replaced

The guy I talked to at ford I believe told me their records only go back 10 years. I was able to get the window sticker for my 2002, but my 95 I was not. Luckily, he found an original invoice though from my 95 and sent that to me.
