I have a wiring harness and mounting kit from Crutchfield to replace the shaker500 with the new double din deck I am installing. I have all the wiring prepared with the exception of three wires.
  1. Speed Control
  2. Reverse Sense
  3. Parking Brake
The reverse sense and parking brake are easy but I don't want to have to run a wire all the way to the trunk and tap the reverse light. Some of these wires must be coming from under the dash already. It is a pain to route a wire all the way back there. The speed control is a complete mystery because I can't find a wiring diagram for a 2008 GT-500 I assume I could get by with a GT wiring diagram, neither are readily available online.

A little help please..... :canada:

http://forums.stangnet.com/736028-pioneer-avic-d3-installation-write-up.html This should help you some. Did you buy the rear-view camera? If not, you won't be using the reverse wire. As far as the speed control and parking brake, I'm fairly certain you can ground both wires to by-pass them.

I agree about the parking brake and reverse being grounded but I understand that the on screen update for the GPS display is much more accurate if you can tie into the speed control. Has anyone done that before?

Here is my write-up/install of the D3:

Because you said you don't want to run a wire to the rear of the car, I assume you are NOT installing a rear view camera. If that is the case, do NOT worry about the reverse wire. As others have said, it is only for the reverse camera. It basically tells the unit to turn the camera on and show the image on the screen. It is not for any other purpose..

As far as speed sense wire.. I did NOT connect mine and the D3 has been in the dash for quite some time now. In addition, I've used it to get me a lot of different places. The speed sense wire doesn't help the NAV too much.. (ok.. it makes it a bit more precise). I know on the D3 it is used for the built-in gauges (although they still work without the wire being connected- they use the NAV antenna and satellites to sense the speed of the car.

For the parking brake, don't worry about it. The only reason you would connect the parking brake wire is to limit the abilities of your NAV unit.. With the parking brake wire connected, you will only be able to change your route with the brake one- that can be very annoying.. especially when you can safely have a passenger play with the NAV while you drive.

Regardless, I know you want to know where the wires are.. As far as speed sense wires, open the hood and check in that little plastic box at the passenger side of the engine bay, in the front (powertrain contol module). It should be a dark blue/yellow wire, top plug, pin 3.. that is for a 2007..

I decided that it was not worth running a wire into the engine bay.. I keep telling myself I'm gonna go back and connect the wire.. it's really not worth it.. your nav will work fine without it.

Any questions, please check out my write-up.. or send me a PM.

Good luck. :nice:
