OK done,

It is time consuming:(

Looks really cool though. Problems i had:

- need to disconnect parking brake cable from rear caliper to be able to lift park brake handle high enough to remove console

- since i have a 99-04, i have to use that clip and spacer they include in the kit to attach cable to shifter. But there was no bolts included in the kit.

Beside that, everything went smooth.

Havent road test it yet and wife dont see any difference:shrug:

I hate everyone in this thread doing this mod! I hate people who made video's on you tube! UGGG!!!! I want to copy this mod too. right down to the shift knob! its sitting in my amazon Cart waiting for me to say buy it.

so let me ask this...
1) how long did it take to install it for you?
2) when you say disconnect the parking brake, that meant you had to go under the car to disconnect it?
3) did you buy new bolts and stuff, or did you recycle parts from the old shifter? if you bought new parts, what model numbers are they? (i want to save time going to Napa or autozone for parts)
4) also i want to join "the Auto can neva' lose club"

1) how long did it take to install it for you? Started at 13h00 and finished at 19h00 includind strugling with the console for about 1.5 hours

2) when you say disconnect the parking brake, that meant you had to go under the car to disconnect it?remove the rear wheel and pull out the cable from the caliper using plier. No parts needed.

3) did you buy new bolts and stuff, or did you recycle parts from the old shifter? if you bought new parts, what model numbers are they? (i want to save time going to Napa or autozone for parts) Only things missing was the bolts to fix the 99-04 support to the shifter and i found them in my overstock. Dont need to be specific, i used 2 3/16 bolts and nuts + washer and lock tite.

4) also i want to join "the Auto can neva' lose club" Me too

Ok,

bringing it back up for some questions. maybe Cobrared would know.

When installing the new shifter and adjusting the cable, instructions says to pull the slack from beneath the car at the tranny lever and then tighten the bolt.

On my 2001, it s a kind of a slotted part at the end of the cable. This is the only adjustment possible on that cable and when installing the new shifter, i was already at the limit of the slotted part.

I was able to get some more loose from the bracket retaining the cable to the tranny but still, some time, i have to push the shifter to start the car cause the cable still pulling on the lever. So car think it s not in P so it doesnt start.

Only other alternative: remove the entire cable and modify that slotted part to make it longer a little bit. I just need about 1/8''.

Didnt someone ever experienced that???

Thx

:rlaugh:this is my favorite thread ever.

As for the shifting cable - the a common symptom. It was discussed in another B&M thread like last week. He brought it to a shop and they said it was a prob of being just too short but somehow i think they picked up some slack. My shifter does it sometimes too. Either you start the car in neutral - or when you park your car you push it into park with some force so when you start it the gear selector modular is in it's correct position. I'm trying to figure out what i should do to fix the "problem", but i have my attention on my half apart engine right now and don't exactly want to open the shifter area again.

Thx.

The cable is in fact too short by about 1/8.

I manage to pick up some play this week and it a a lot better since before that the car would go in between shift some time when manually up shift. Doesnt do it anymore.

I ll just remove the cable and extend the slotted space at the end.

Thx again

The slotted end by the gear modual? Don't do that, drive will be 2nd, park will be reverse ect. It need to be where it was stock which will be where the circle mark will be from it being in that position for so long.

yea, its defintely too short a cable. the guys that fixed it at the shop, gave me some batter slack to play with, but so far its not perfect. i still run into problems with the car not starting because its not all the way in park. if i give it an extra nudge, it can start in park, and if it wont start in park i can start in neutral.

instead of removing the loop that goes on the transmission bolt (not the loop on the shifter) perhaps dremmel'in the inside of that loop a little bit to shave it.
I am debating doing this. I probabbly will, when i put my car back up on the ramps. But my car is also out of commission with a broken water pump. which my replacement hasnt shipped yet :(

Exactly what i was thinking.

Either that or allowing the nearest support to the tranny to come closer to the lever by also slotting the bolt opening

My bolt position in that first pic is in the middle like stock because when i would adjust it D would no longer be drive it'd be another gear along with the others, but my actuator is a newer model i think; they said the original OEM one was replaced. Still looks the same tho
