Need brighter lights?

I am in need of some better lighting for my 96 Cobra. I have BOI Smoked headlights, not looking to do a retrofit, and I DO NOT want HID's, not worth it IMO. So, that leaves me with halogens. How much better would Sylvania Silverstars be compared to stock lights? I will be swapping out the fog lights as well. Is there any other ones to consider? Before I spend $80 on the Sylvania bulbs I want to make sure it is worth it. Thanks.

It's when you take a stock halogen housing, and retrofit true HID projectors inside the housing so the HID light is properly projected.

It's considered the "proper" way to put HID's on a car not originally equipped with them as OEM equipment and not create glare. Installing a plug-and-play kit in the stock housing is MUCH cheaper, but considered the "hack" way of achieving it.

The thing is, nobody wants to pay the $$$ to do it right. HID projectors can cost $100-200 and then you need to custom fabricate them into your OEM housings. Then you gotta buy the HID kit and OEM bulbs and wire it all up.

The end result is usually an OEM-quality cut-off line that looks better and doesn't blind everyone. It also looks better on the car as it looks classier with a sharp line like this. Notice thee are no hot spots, the light is even all the way across and nothing above the cutoff line at all.

Check Ebay. I got my silverstars for $25 plus shipping for the two headlight bulbs and foglamp bulbs. I found the foglamp bulbs burned out and didn't match, so i ended up buying two ricer fog light bulbs that were actually white and matched the silverstar headlights better than the silverstar foglights did.

You could run a relay setup and draw power directly off the battery and use the OEM headlight harness to activate the relays. The lights would burn slightly brighter due to more direct current feed vs traveling through the OEM headlight harness.

Could run smoked clear fog lamps as well
 
Silverstars will not be any brighter than a stock halogen, only whiter.

I had Silverstars in the lows and fog lights in my Saturn and the fogs would always burn out. Im sure its because of the crappy housing, but it was annoying to say the least. And at $20 a pop it was no worth it at all.

You can get a HID kit off ebay for $60 btw..

WOW. Those look amazing. Who's car is that? It would be worth the money to do it right if they came out like that! :nice:
 
I don't want the headache's with the plug and play kit. I would rather have my current setup vs. a half way done one. I don't have the knowledge or skills to do a retrofit, otherwise I would. Guess I will be sticking with stockers. I can live with it, but was hoping for $100 or less I could get brighter lighting. I love the true HID's, but HID's in halogen housings isn't something I am gonna do. I know the price of them, I just don't want the plug and play. Thanks, any more input is appreciated.
 
I may not do the silverstars, atleast completely. It seems my fogs provide 75% of my lighting (or atleast make it a TON better driving). I'm contemplating an Envoy fog light swap. They fill the holes better, and also tend to be brighter, so I've been told. Also, I am considering running HID fogs with Silverstars in the headlights so they somewhat match. Benefits: brighter lighting, yet low enough not to blind oncoming traffic. I know I will do the Envoy mod, but any opinions on the HID fogs, will it help, will it blind people, etc? Thanks.
