O.k. here is the scoop just did a 50 mile trip got back into town cruising in third car started lurging, cutting out but lightly came to stop she died and would not restart, had to listen to some white trash bitch scream found on road dead as she drove off in her p.o.s. S10, I looked better pushing my 5.0, any way more importantly got her off road, and she fired made it a mile did it again and so on. made it home I can hear fuel pump come on car will run about a minute then start sputtering and then wont start for a bit after it dies the fuel pump sound different, I suspect the fuel pump, but dont want to mis diagnose I just bought a pressure tester what should pressure be at start? idle? if I lose pressure when it starts sputtering can I make the assumption the fuel pump is bad? I got a trip planned labor day and need the 5.0 thankls

My stang did the same I was on the highway for a short while came home when I turned off the car the fuel pump was was still running & makeing a horrible sound so I turned the car back on & turned it off again it did the samething again. I figured it was the fuel pump so I replaced it & I haven't had a problem since. I am told to always try to keep the fuel tank at least half full to keep the fuel pump cool.

May be worth your effort to replace the fuel filter. Drain the contents into a clear container and see if there is any large debrix that may be clogging it. Unlikely this could be your main problem but will give you an idea of what exactly your fuel pump is picking up out of the tank.

Could be anything from a bad fuel pump to a relay issue but fuel pumps usually just go without warning. I would pull codes and make sure the TFI modual or hall-effect dizzy is not giving trouble. I had my 87' GT cut out on me 1/2 mile from home at a redlight. I went home and hooked up a fuel pressure tester and got results in spec and then pulled codes and found out it was the dizzy. If the fuel pump does not act up after the car has warmed up in he heat of the day then it is not the issue.
