Parts you regret buying?

  • Sponsors (?)

Adjustable clutch cable (to try to crutch fix a problem)
1996 Cobra front bumper (never even had it leave the garage, and I sold it last week)
Timing adjuster (never felt like taking the time to install it)

I plan the parts I buy out quite well. With the last two I decided to buy the cobra before I did anything with them.

80 passes? On a street vehicle? For the price of a stage 3, a stage 4 or 5 would have been worth it probably if you were making enough power.

Alot of you guys probably aren't too familar with me but I put over 1000 passes on my car from late 1999 to oct/nov 2004. The car was my daily driver till the last 8 months of '04. The car only made 286RWHP so it wasn't huge power, clutch was broken in as instructed and just didn't last for me. Now maybe it was a defective clutch, maybe it didn't like 2nd or 3rd gear burnouts at the track but it didn't last me. With longtubes on the car it was a pretty major pain to pull the T-45 and change clutches so I wasn't about to give them a second chance.

damn thats a lot of bad parts.

That was back in 99-02 when I did most of that testing. At the time no one had experience with stuff other than opinions and opinions weren't getting my car into the 12's and eventually 11's in NA trim.

Steeda Timing Adjuster: SOTP gains were probably pyschological and I didn't get enough time to thoroughly track test it (weather/density altitude and track condition issues, plus I ended up headswapping shortly thereafter.) I only paid $125 for it back in '02 so it was a worthy investment from an experimental standpoint.

Steeda Adjustable Clutch Quadrant: Total POS, left me stranded on a busy Baltimore thoroughfare during rush hour.

UPR Chrome-Moly Control Arms: The groans from the back of my street car after installing these solid bushing arms made me switch to a set of 3 piece bushing arms.

sounds like your car isnt tuned right. do you have a wideband on the car? iam willing to bet your afr is jumping from 15.6 to 14.0 and richer. does you tach serge? I have never heard that about cams.

After cams my car never ran right and yet my car serge and my idle goes up and down like vacuum leak.

After cams my car started whistling around 2000rpm like supercharger, I have change all gasket and parts but cannot locate where it's whistling from.

I used to run 13.5 1/4 miles before cams and now after came my best after 2 years is 13.4. Last dyno it pulled 293rwhp but I run mid to high 13 sec. Every one thinks I should be running 12 high.

The shop who install my cams maybe didn't install right:shrug:

'99 polished cobra rims that are on the car right now:(

I needed new tires so i figure now's the time to upgrade to some 18's or some 17x8/10.5's. The choices were Saleen knock-offs, FR500's or o3 cobra's and i find myself cruising through svtperf, among other places, looking for wheels and find an ad that says "99 Polished Cobra wheels, brand new $440 OBO"

These are 17x8, the SAME SIZE as stock but for some strange, inexplicable reason I end up buying them anyway for $400 (plus the cost of pony centercaps) from a Ford dealer out in Michigan. I install them and as soon as i get my car off the lift i say to myself, "Damn it, i shoulda got 18's":nonono:

sounds like the maf transfer function is a little off. I would take it to someone else because from what you just told me it sounds like your car isnt tuned right.

How much power do you want :D

can you explain please?

751rwhp is not enough ? I don't blame you.:nice:

the mahle pistons are very hard material and do not stand up to detonation very well at all!

you would be surprised how fast you get used to power. my car feels like a very tame street car to me. it will hook 1st gear from a roll and never even think about spinning in 2nd (this is with MT's out back)
honestly i want to have a 110 oct and 125 shot tune to run on the road. you would think 600's on pump gas would be one of the faster cars around but it is really not in my area. there are 800-1000 hp street cars everywhere you turn!

i would like to see 815 to the wheels on race gas and spray. that would beat the current record for the highest HP 2V at the shop.

He wants the harness the holy almighty right arm of god under the hood, and apparently Mahle pistons aren't up to the job of being the fist:shrug:
:nonono::nonono::nonono:

i dont know why i cheaped out on the pistons................$300 more and i would be over 800 to the wheels already:(

oh well,theres always time for a TT 4V build!!

I regret buying my 97 and all the parts with I bought for it.

Should have waited a few more years and just bought a junkyard car and built it as a race car since thats the only thing I ever drove it for.

this is a good thread to learn from...lets see

for the money i spent for springs, cams, head gaskets, and install...Comp 262ah cams not work "bang for the buck". they sound nice at idle but. but the idel hangs and then drops, stalls in and out of gear and i spent well over a grand for parts.

VVME 8k HID's. should have gotten 6k. too blue and not bright enough

18x10.5 shelby gt500 wheels. should have gotten 18x9 in the front

UD pullies made no seat of the pants feel for $130

FM super 40 mufflers sound sweet but should have gotten the whole cat back looking back

cheap "racing seats". should have saved for Corbeau CR1's

long tube headers were a BITCH to install and are horrible when you pull the heads. but, ,they sound badass and they have a nice HP improvement

custom building my exhaust by myself. Every time something goes wrong or I want to change it, I have to completely rebuild it. I think many of us have been through more than 1 different brand of exhaust.

With all the money I have spent......sorry to say it but I shoulda bought a Z06:rolleyes:
