Hello,

I am buying a 67 mustang coupe from my cousin this week. It was originaly a 4-lug 6cyl car, its had a pretty warm 351 put in with a rebuilt C-6.

Now the 4 lug has to go, but I'm stuck between trying to find an 8 or 9" rearend and just go 5 lug drum on the back.

Or

I've found an 8.8 rearend out of a 94 Crown Vic Police interceptor with disc brakes.

Of course this is a coil over rear end, but I can modify it with leaf perches to fit my suspension. The question is, is this feasable?

Has it been done (i'm sure it has) but what came of it?

I believe the Ford 9" that came with a 68 is 59.25 inch's wide flange to flange. How much wider is this disc brake rear end and is it going to make my wheels hang out from under the wheel wells (really dont want this)

I have a full set of Cragar S/S's I'm going to put on the car, they are 8x15 on the back

I've seen people take a disc brake 8.8 and swap the guts into a 9" housing, but I dont have a 9" to start with.

i'm just wondering if I'm better off putting the entire late model 8.8 rear end under the 67, or should I try finding an 8 or 9 inch that will be a direct fit.

I would love to do a disc brake conversion on the rear, I dont think the swap will be hard at all, I just want to make sure its going to look right before I buy/install it.

Thanks, Lance

Thanks

Thanks for the advice, that looks great

Do you have any pic's of how it looks assembled under the car

Was it any wider than the stock rear end

As long as it looks right and doesnt look too long under the car I'm fine with it

Wow

That looks great, just the stance I'm looking for

Were you able to use the stock master cylinder with a different proportioning valve? or did you have to get new master cylinder?

I might keep 5 lug drums on the frong for the time being

i will be using "HYDROBOOSTER" on my but i will have 12" disk in the rear and 11+ in a front
+ 4.6 DOHC
but for you setub you can use Booster from a 94-95 mustang.

Will that master cylinder have any probs in operating the disc's on the back and drums on the front.

I would think a powered brake booster would still give the drums what they need

Hey chudik

I saw the other thread that has your build in it, I have to say the car looks fantastic. I'm currently in the process of finding all the fiberglass tail piece's to make a shelby/cali special out of my car

Where did you find the best deals on all your parts (IE Trunk lid w/spoiler, Quarter extensions, 65 t-bird tail lights and buckets/bezzles, ect....)

I also have a full write up on my cardomain site on the install of a 90 mustang rear end. It will be very similar to the disk brake version you are looking at, as I had to use a spacer for the 05 wheels.

Let me know what you think.
